Ab-fab Gaz, some great ideas there thanks so much for sharing. Great timing too as a work mate has asked me to help on a small layout (8x4). He has a motorized tram that he wants to include and I was thinking of a small town scene above the railway and running the tram on a shuttle along the street and into a scenic break. Glad to hear that life is getting brighter with you, keep it up buddy, all the best, regards Bobby 'T'.

Absolutely love this latest project Garry. Terrific modelling and very inventive indeed. But my goodness pal, on the modelling front, you certainly make life hard for yourself. However, having said that, it's certainly very therapeutic, so that can only be a good thing. Maybe you should approach LT and offer your services in the design department. My late friend used to live in the area a long time ago, and he used to watch the GWR Prairie Tanks going back and forth at Old Oak Common. Apparently, he could see them from the bottom of his garden; lucky ol' him! Before I sign off, going back to our previous conversation regarding Ian Allen, I became a member of his so-called club. With membership, I got a 1inch diameter plastic badge. It was white with the club wording forming a circle around the perimeter, and a steam engine printed in the middle. You chose the colour of the wording and picture according to whatever region you were interested in which, in my case, was SR green. Until the next time, take care pal! 👍

Hi Paul, Hope your keeping well my friend.. Many thanks for your comment on the underground section, I do admit I am a bit of a tinkerer when I am building lol, but yeah very therapeutical indeed.. Great back story on Ian Allan and your badge - Hold that badge with pride especially in SR green.. very nice choice..👍 Garry

Hi Garry. Many thanks for your response. Very kind of you to inquire after my health. Much appreciated. Likewise, I hope you are also keeping well. Regarding the Ian Allen badge, unfortunately, that was a long time ago, and after several moves, it vanished along with a few other momentos. That's life I suppose. I've tried to locate one since, but to no avail I'm afraid. I've also lost my Ian Allen Locospotters books with all the numbers of the steam, diesel and electric trains I've observed underlined, but somehow managed to keep the LT buses book. I digress! Do take care Garry and keep the model railway flag flying. Paul.

Hi Gary, just subscribed, am from TNE and seen your excellent work. Very much enjoyed this tube work and interesting to see the reversing module. It's a real shame Gaugemaster have a stop on dc feature in their chips but cannot produce an application note (I have asked) that they have tried and tested to implement that we can then use without any issues, dcc concepts certainly have an advantage over them with what they produce. Best regards Stephen.
@cheekytek
@cheekytek 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, Thanks for the comment and subscription.. I struggle with many Gaugemaster products on the layout tbh.. I have tried many of their decoders and control units and I must say I was not impressed on their reliability, `That said I can not fault the Prodigy systems and I have two units Express and Advanced but this is re-manafactured MRC unit through Gaugemaster 🤔- In my opinion I do feel Gaugemaster dose lag behind other electric retailers and they don't have very good customer service as I have noted.. Seems DCC concepts and the likes etc that are truly out for the modeller.. Thanks again. All the best Garry
@stephenpike3147
@stephenpike3147 3 жыл бұрын
@@cheekytek Hi Gary, yes their decoders do occasionally blow on what I think is a dc shoot through fault on the output bridge. This probably comes about because in the event of a brown out (say due to momentary loss of supply as run over a point or dirt) the decoder does not quench and then reset properly. I can see it manifests itself as there is very little capacitance available on these very compact PCBs to hold up the electronics supply to give the sequencing electronics and processor code to properly shut down (probably only a few extra milliseconds is all that is needed ) as the input sees its brown out. Its very different in the drives industry where I come from and we have plenty of capacitance in equivalent (ac drive) configurations - never see these shoot through faults on well designed, verified and tested kit. I suspect that is what DCC Concepts have realised on the recent release of decoders where they say extra (a small amount) capacitance has been added. I looked at the NMRA standards and believe there is a hole in the standards on this theme - for the dcc supply voltage (circa 15V peak for OO gauge) they do not specify a lower limit at which the dcc chips must work when turning a motor - there is for the aux outputs (7.5V peak if I remember correctly) on only and that might be the root of this particular problem; not in standards so no one is obliged to test or worse realise it needs addressing. Yes agree on Prodigy control systems. There are some very useful CV etc guides on the MRC website that plugs some gaps in the Gaugemaster documentation. MRC seem to be the design authority, Gaugemaster just a support, repair and sales outlet - where as in UK DCC Concepts are the design, compliance and test authority too plus they have local knowledge of the UK railway modelling fraternity needs and gripes. I would love to see an all encompassing dcc system that you can expand with modules as you need them, sensibly priced, so you can buy bits to expand as you with a universal looped comms bus with common connectors that you can easily make up yourself that controls all items - train control, routes, points and all other accessory controllers and signals and provides a gateway to a PC based simple control application. At the moment the industry is cluttered with too many part solutions and oddities! It might be that DCC Concepts are trying to position themselves in this way, so definitely a company to keep an eye on. Ooophs rant over lol Stephen

Hi Garry, What amazing attention to detail. I have just watched the three parts covering the 'Going Underground' journey. Very informative and inspirational. How many feet of the side of the layout did the decline take to reach down to the level where Baker Street is situated? Thanking you :)
@cheekytek
@cheekytek Жыл бұрын
Hi Peter Thanks for your comment - If you head to my cheekytek website you can see a detailed track plan with some inspiration to how the lower section sits. From the top of my head I believe the drop is over 5ft over the corner curve. Its probably not the best way to add a lower section but it certainly works as a fix to my space requirements to give enough drop to 4 inches below the base board.. Hope this helps in some way. All the Best Garry.
@MaboPete
@MaboPete Жыл бұрын
@@cheekytek Thank you that, Garry. It does help indeed. My own decline follows a similar path in that it incorporates a curve over a very similar distance. I'm hoping to get away with Hornby 3rd Radius to reach the allocated (straight) space at the back, but if push comes to shove I'll have to get some flexitrack. Kind Regards, Peter

Hi James, apologies for the delays as been busy with cheekytek, I have the Zen Black chip that features the shuttle system but I would need to buy the little modules that accommodate the running so its not so plug and play unfortunately. Hence why I opted for the Blocksignalling system of which I really can't fault as it was really easy to set up in minutes. For me it was just that I had to work out how I wanted to run it.. Had you looked at the DCC concepts ABC shuttle as interested on your views.. ? Thanks for the comment as always. Garry
