Ironically they aren’t feeling they’re only chasing safety but they play it anyways cause that’s what the fans like. Spencer said in an interview they were kids when they wrote those lyrics and he doesn’t jibe with it anymore.

Just saw them play this live in Seattle without having heard it before and was really into it. Studio version is awesome too. Spencer kept asking if people would come out if they came back on tour. The crowd was really lame but that’s Seattle. First time I’ve seen them live and I’ve been a fan since 04.

Comments on social media and reddit made me think this would be bad and unrecognizable as underoath but of course it was just classic fans not wanting to let artists be artists. 'Why doesnt the band sound like they did five albums and 10 years ago' vibes... This is nice and fresh take on underoath. Excited to see how it fits in an album with other more traditional songs and maybe even more experimental songs? Good stuff.

As a long time fan of this band I can understand the disappointment. That being said, Spencer recently gave an interview where he explains they deliberately released this song first to throw off the fans and ruffle some feathers. But he further goes on to say that this song doesn’t represent the sound of the new album and it’s kind of just a one-off experimental piece. FWIW

WOW....The last time I listened to Underoath I remember it clearly. - I was going through an emo phase and in middle school, and I'd always be singing my all time favorite song - "Drowning in myy sleep I'm drowning in myy sleeep - GLASS SHATTERS AND COMES TO A HALT!..." -**It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door** -- And to hear this after all that time?! Wow. Yup, They still kickin ass. =D Keep it up, Underoath! You guys were and always have been absolutely amazing! Took me a few listens because I was not expecting this. Sounded more like one of the songs you’re featured on than a true Underoath song… I think the last time I felt this way was when you dropped “Unsound”. I am totally here for this. The intro, the vocals, the drums… feels like the MuteMath, Underoath and (newer) Korn collaboration that I never knew I needed. Can’t wait to hear more! I think your evolutions are why you’ve been my favorite band for nearly 20 years.
