This guy doesn't talk shit, he get's to the point. He is not a liar. He is by far still a massive christian influence as he is down to earth. He doesn't rub his faith in your face. He is honest, upfront, and confronting. If only 'actual' christians could be as forward.

I am Christian literally because of his scream in some with seek forgiveness. that song has been my anthem for almost 3 years now (January 20th) I will never, ever doubt spencers heart or actions. without him I would probably not be a christian today. and I know that true for a lot of people (Ross Kenyon ex confide vocalist) He never said he wasn't a christian. He said he loved music. and he is pretty freakin great at making it. love underoath!

He has such a level perspective on everything. Huge respect for that. I don't think Underoath have changed too much since Aaron left, the new album is probably my favourite of theirs. I think Spencer is a brilliant vocalist, both singing and screaming. They have such a massive influence on our music too.

Underoath's newest album is the best one they've released. They've broke through that emo/screamo barrier that was keeping them back for so long. Daniel Davison (Underoath's new drummer and former drummer for Norma Jean) is a GREAT addition to the band.

"We make better records without him, and him without us." All he is saying is that they had opposing styles and it was holding both of their writing back, and that both Aaron and UO are making better music now without that resistance.

This interview is filled with bitterness towards Gillespie and an agnostic view of existence. You can tell that Spencer is unsure of his own beliefs and I'm glad he finally cleared the air whether or not they are a "Christian Band." This really answers a lot of questions as to why Gillespie is no longer with Underoath and I applaud him for walking away. That being said, while UO still makes great music, it's not the same. Aaron's voice cannot be replaced in their music.

Remember when you lost a best friend even though you went through about everything together wether it was you that cut the ties or not? It's the same thing here. Over glorifying them to not understand what they're going through is ridiculous. They're people like you and me and we lose some friends and gain new ones. What DID work no longer works, I'm sure we've all gone through this experience.

I love Spencer, I love this band, I love Aaron. I love their hearts and really lead me to faith in Jesus Christ, it's interesting the mixed feelings I get from this interview. They really do show God in a different way that connects to a lot of different people, especially atheists like what I used to be. It is refreshing to see someone who has faith in God but not in your face about it, but at the same time you do need to do what you've gotta do as someone who follows the gospel, and this kind

Continued from above (I had a lot to say. After all, there's quite a bit in the interview): And about his comments on religion, I think that UO still spreads a positive message, they just don't preach. And I can completely relate to his situation - I consider myself religious, but I, like many, began to play music for the love of music. The love for God came into my life later, for I had to find it for myself.

I love Spencer's honesty in his interview. He made some good points that really showcase that this band is not the same as it once was before (or that I assumed it was). This interview should make it clear to everybody who Underoath is, and was. Even though some of his responses may have seemed harsh, it's plain to see there were some skeletons to confess. They may not be the "greatest" christian dudes, but they are a great band/artists.

Spencer has defintely stepped up to the plate and continues to get better and better. And if you have seen underoath live then you'll understand the greatness this band has with or without aaron.

Flyleaf has the best answer to this question, whether or not you like Flyleaf: "Well, you know what? I don’t know what you mean by a “Christian rock band.” It’s hard to say that because people all have a different definition of what that means. If it means that we’re Christians, then yeah, we’re Christians, but if a plumber’s a Christian, does that make him a “Christian plumber?” I mean we’re not playing for Christians. We’re just playing honestly and that’s going to come out."

@himaxdvd I know right?! That's what I was saying! I know every show I've gone to see underOATH, he always puts himself out there for his fans and is always open about his faith. Also when I went to Warped Tour one year, I got to met him and the rest of the band (highlight of the whole event mind you), and he and the others were soo personable, soo humble. Like he doesn't put himself on a pedestal like most musicians do!

@Degslon a lot of people are disappointed because this band was very inspiring and led these people to Christianity... that's the main reason why a lot of people are upset. It bothers me too, but I do agree with you. I am glad he is honest and not pretending to be something he's not.

I think some of you guys are taking this to the extreme. He even goes to say their hearts are in the same place. He says that he'll share his beliefs all day, he just loves music. When he mentions "if there is God we didn't piss him off too much" he might also just be going through doubts. It's normal. The best thing you can do is pray for him. His relationship with Christ is his business, not ours. Everyone is already judging him and that's what he says disappoints him, it's up to God, not us

I loved underoath not only because they were a great band, but because the message behind the music was amazing. This video killed it completely for me. Since they are not considered a christian band, there is nothing that keeps me attached to them. If I want to listen to cool unchristian music, there is Lamb of God, Rammestin etc. It was awesome to see a Christian band perform so well, but Spencer basically denounced everything Underoath stood for in the past.

As someone who's a personal friend of Aaron Gillespie, I know for a fact that he was not the sole reason UO were a "Christian" band. He left because he felt God had a different calling than in Underoath and like Spencer says in this interview that was pretty evident. Aaron doesn't doubt the UO guys faith and I stand with him in that. Underoath wasn't and isn't a bad thing. Aaron's issue in Underoath were his personal issues, not about UO. Underoath still loves Jesus.

and visualizing what you want until you get it ("The Secret" type thing), which at the same time matches the quantum mechanics theories of physics that we create our realities by wanting and mentalizing things because at the smallest scale of things, at sub-atomic scales everything is chaotic and possible, which allows the changing of the realities on bigger scales. it's weird that he says that the dynamic didn't work.. because it obviously did. they wrote 3 amazing records together... and they always seemed to get along great in past interviews and on stage. they even said they all loved each other. spencer struggling with drugs may have driven a wedge between them.... i'm not sure. i don't think him saying 'we write better records without him' is bad though.. that's just what he believes is true.

I love UnderOath. There's a lot of truth being said, but at the same time, I love music, but I play music to share the gifts that God gave me because HE is the one who gave them to me. Music is a sacred, sacred thing, and it's blessed by God. Theres nothing wrong with entertaining people or putting on a good show, but I know at the end of the day the only reason I do this is because of the man Jesus Christ who loves me. To me, there's no reason to play music if there was no God. It's all His.

when emotions dominate things you know/believe to be TRUE. and if they think that the words shared in this video will not meet a mixed response, then this is wrong. I pray for Spencer A LOT. and my personal opinion is that the words coming from his mouth are from a place of not being spiritually kept in check and being pruned and growing within a body of believers. MANY "Christian" bands need to get into a "Congregation" to help them stay sharp and grow... and many Christian bands who do not

In my opinion defining the great line was their best album and I didn't like the album after that but after Aaron left their new album was better than Lost in the Sound of Separation. I freaking loved Aaron's voice and his drumming, but I think after Lost in the Sound of Separation he felt he needed to leave and in some ways I'm glad he did because the new album is much better than Lost in the Sound of Separation, and Aaron's music is awesome and so is Underoaths, love both styles of music.

So many points he made are the cold hard truth: One, so many bands have got on the bandwagon with labeling themselves a Christian band. And think about this: they have been badgered constantly about Aaron, and Spencer finally spoke the truth. In some sense, it's like a bad divorce-you will always love you ex in some way but it's time for you both to move on. I think that's what he was getting at when he spoke of Aaron's departure. NO ONE WILL KNOW WHAT THE TENSION IN THE BAND WAS REALLY LIKE.
