Compilation Video:
In the realm of horror cinema, Tobe Hooper, renowned for classics like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist, veered into the slasher genre in 1981 with a unique twist. While labeled as such, his film, The Funhouse, deviates from the expected tropes, plunging viewers into a carnival of terror where escape seems impossible. Meanwhile, we journey to Italy, where the thin line between Giallo and Slasher blurs further in 1987's Stagefright. Witness as Italian cinema ventures into the realm of slashers, offering a distinct take on the genre. Join us as we dissect these captivating tales of horror and suspense.

I love The Funhouse! It has great creepy atmosphere. Gunther scared the crap out of me when he tore off the Frankenstein mask!

The best part of Stage Fright is that scene where he's sitting on the stage with the cat. All the feathers floating around and everything looks dream like

Love Stage Fright. Saw this for the first time over 10 years ago, the stage scene near the end was so good. Also Tyler is totally the MVP of JoBlo.

Weirdly, I HAVE seen "Stage Fright," but not "The Funhouse." I was able to catch the underrated Italian gem, on VHS in the 90's. I like it more now, then I did back in my teens. The sound did throw me, back then. But, now as an adult in my 40's, I can appreciate it much more. At one point I had a small, second-hand electronic store. From that, I a couple copies of Hooper's lesser known flick. I just never got around to checking it out. Sacrilege, I know. But life, sometimes, gets in the way of our fun.

Nothing but love and appreciation for Stage Fright! Sucha great flick by Soavi! It's his first one after being assistant director role for couple Argento ones... He's got a couple more great ones after this one; The Church and Cemetery Man and The Sect. Big shame he didn't manage to do more...

As a fan of 70s and 80s exploitation movies, and try as I may, I can never fully enjoy the Italian stuff because of the ADR, and it’s not just the dialogue, the sound of everything is just “off”. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy watching the Italian cheese, I just wish the audio stuff didn’t bother me so much, cuz there is A LOT of cool Italian cheeze to watch in any genre. Anyways, another cool vid, I def enjoy your vids on the 70s and 80s stuff. It scratches my nostalgic gen x inch.

As a teenager, I remember catching an early 80s Australian slasher flick, but I do not remember the name. These two brothers try to protect their single mother from a stalker who is killing all of her boyfriends. It was very good with a twist ending; anybody remember this movie?

Tho not techniquely a slasher the 08 Wizard of Gore never see or hear anything about but just the cast alone Douriff, Crispin Glover AND Jeffrey Combs in one movie. I don't kno much about the Suicide Girls ft on the DVD cover but they're are basically 'cannon' fodder Montag the Magnificent in some crazy death scenes one even using the Brazen bull ancient torture device I think deserves more normally kinda in range w/imdb but this gets only 4.9 which i almost get if voted on by non hardcore horror fans i guess critic consensus 80% on rotten tomatoes right on

Whenever people say Spielberg really directed Poltergeist I tell them to watch The Funhouse. The blocking is the same, the cinematography similar and the strobe light effect at the end is similar to Poltergeist. I wouldn’t consider The Funhouse as a slasher film it’s a monster, haunted house picture. When it came out there was a lot of controversy regarding the one sheet it was deemed offensive and lots of newspapers refused to print it thats when the changed it to the fat lady dummy, also producers were pissed that FANGORIA slapped Gunther on the cover months before the release of the film. BTW Rick Backer did the sculpt of Gunther he had to leave the job because the film suffered lots of setbacks backs like a hurricane destroying the carnival set, Craig Readon replaced him.
