In Ukraine's defense, they didn't have much more options to try and nudge the German's to coming over to their side. As long as Russia had the "noose" of gas around Germany's neck, they would have to continued (like they have in the past decades) to act very intrepidly in terms of anything "russia" related. In this way, it was actually quite a smart move. What isn't a "smart" move is Russia or China attacking the infrastructure of unrelated countries directly to their own conflicts of conquest.

There is a physically distinct difference between a cut cable and a torn cable. Repairs would be laying and splicing new cable sections. But finding the actual damage is a submersible down to what depth and is an anchor chain long enough to reach?
