I'm 73 and am severely (and I mean SEVERELY) math challenged. Was very sick as a child and missed a lot of school so by 9th grade I was so lost the teacher sounded like he was speaking Greek to me. 😕 Thru the decades math became a very nasty 4-letter word to me, so the family joke is if you start taking math around me you're swearing at me. 🤐 Over time I've picked up some useful knowledge here and there and lately I've started watching videos like yours to help me fill in some of the missing pieces in my learning. It's truly helped a lot, but I have a very long way to go before I'll ever be comfortable around numbers. 😊 In your video, I was with you thru everything up to the last problem when you started speaking Greek. 🤔 I don't now, and may never understand how the answer was reached. It simply isn't logical to me, but that's been my biggest roadblock; to me, math isn't logical. But because of teachers like you it's been a lot easier for folks like me and I'm truly thankful for that. God bless.
@johnking6308 Жыл бұрын
I'm older than you are and have discovered through the decades that not everyone who teaches math should be teaching math. Colleges teach math while forgetting to teach how to teach.
@alexbrown3099 Жыл бұрын
The reason why the last answer is positive 9 because there’s two negatives and there’s a bracket separating the two number. The brackets means to multiple and when multiplying two negative numbers you get a positive sign and a positive number.

When I actually learned positive & negative, (around 2 years ago) I had a bad teacher so I never bothered to learn bc if you didn't get the right answer, she'd say something along the lines of "Well why don't you know the answer. Everyone here does, haven't you been listening?" But I finally mustered up enough courage to try and relearn it. I'm proud of myself.

@rexultimatum25888 жыл бұрын
Well it is -2. They lied to you, they probably initially thought you were too stupid to answer it correctly since you were little and when you did get the answer right, they just said it's 2 or they themselves are that dumb. Subtracting larger #'s from smaller one's in the "Laws of positive & negatives" will always correctly be a negative.

That's ofcourse if both numbers are positive, tho.The only way it would be positive 2, is if the problem was labeled 5+-3.
