For those of you wondering why scales are important: Scales are the building blocks to furthering your musical abilities. I still practice scales on the piano, even after playing for 27+ years.

Can someone explain what the true definition of scales are. My little brother is taking guitar classes but from home for school and has now way of learning and I haven’t played an instrument in my life. Anyone that could help will be great!!
@jimjunglecock28662 жыл бұрын
@@erickfernandez3556 just tell him to learn through the basic pentatonic scale. you find tabs for it online by a simple search. im assuming he knows how to read tabs a bit by now if he is learning scales? also scales are used in soloing and more. but thats later down the road for him if he barely knows anything

Started playing years ago with just a chord poster and ultimate guitar tabs. Never really took the time to learn scales, thus leading to me not progressing and eventually put the guitar down out of frustration. A broken foot /Quarantine got me here and happy it did. Let’s go. Pen and notepad at the ready.

Cheers for this, been searching for "mastering lead guitar" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Ronthan Janvelyn Genie - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a great one of a kind product for discovering how to play Guitar Solos without the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my colleague got amazing results with it.

Call me weird (cause I probably am) but I LOVE playing scales & I always have, on every instrument I've learned (Except the harmonica because... well, just because) I find a peculiar joy in sitting down & playing the same thing over & over again with a metronome. I guess it's the musical version of self-flagellation... The trick is to vary the rhythm sometimes. There's nothing in the rules that says you can't use a 6/8 or a bossa nova rhythm or whatever now & again & it keeps things interesting, as well as keeping you on your toes by getting you used to different rhythms. Embrace the boredom, embrace the self-discipline... And go practice your scales. All of them, in every key!

1. The difference between B-C and E-F is half, every other consecutive pair has a difference of a full step. 2. A scale is made by W W H W W W H movement That's all, you can derive everything done in this video logically from just these two points.

Just watched your vid. Very good. The way my Music theory instructor thought me me was that yes the key of C has no sharps or flats, its perfect. Half step between the notes 3&4 and 7&8. and all the other other keys ( A B D E F G ) want to act like the key of key C, meaning how their edited to act like the key of C.

Hey, i am hoping you could answer this kind of awkward question. Whenever I practice anything whether it be chords or scales and be mindful of playing on my fingertips as taught I noticed that my pinkie won't go straight down but tends to roll outwards. Is this normal and something I just need to keep practicing at or is this just how some players play? Even when I physically try to correct it, it still fights me and stays rolled out so that instead of being hitting the string straight on my pinkie hits the string on its side.

Great lesson Mike!!!!! Is there a way to see right away to which fret we go for the c or a like on a piano? When you say open e ,do you mean that without touching a fret , just by touching the string it gives us a particular note?
@TheArtofGuitar7 жыл бұрын
Just memorize the names for the strings and you'll always have a starting point. Open mean that you're not fretting the string, so yes you are correct.

an easy way to do keys is when the notes are written out the next key will be the fifth of the current scale you're in. when you take the fifth and right out the next scale you sharpen the 7th note and bam you got the next key. When given the scale but no obvious way of telling what the key is then take the last sharp and go up a half step then that is your key.

I don't understand because in the G minor penatonic sale there is an A sharp n it and the G major scale there is an f sharp . I'm sure it's because of the chord being a minor. Can you explain please.
@TheArtofGuitar6 жыл бұрын
G minor pentatonic has a Bb in it. In the G minor scale you'd say G, A, Bb....not G, A, A#.

samuraiguitarist used a phrase to help with remembering which flats and sharps to add with each amount in his “pillars of music theory” video: for sharps: father charles goes down and ends battle for flats: battle ends and down goes charles’ father you reverse the order of the words to get the other polarity of notes. i think that’s the right way around for each one, but i’m not certain.

Scales are the building blocks of chords, melodies, and soloing. If you understand how and especially why they work you can pull off pretty sweet sounds from anywhere on the neck and express yourself in many ways. I'll be going over all the scales in my lessons at the site.

i have a question with no answer: why not instead of practicing scales to familiarize with notes and know where to go when you want to play something in your head, why not ear train to intervals, and try to transcribe easy up to difficult songs.. wouldn't that be easier than non ending and boring scales exercises? Maybe even do the job better..? I'm not asking to be a dick I'm just a beginner and want to know what is lacking from this idea..

Everytime it confuses me with the string numbers, because I'm thinking string 1 is the lowest string. Although it's more logic to go the other way since the 7 string guitars base-note should be referred as "7" cause the original guitar has 6 and it doesn't go a step higher. Thus, it confuses me the same way japanese books does with starting from right to left. #brainfu*ked
