[Another Very Important Tip!] In Seoul, take the orange cap/taxi only! The black one's are explained on the video, silver or white taxis are privately owned/ran ones which in my experience as a Korean live in Seoul skips when there's lots of other taxis nearby.

Don't know how to highlight but Kakao is honestly so much better. Had many problems with regular taxis where they were either rude / aggressive / scammers and never once on the app had a problem. You wouldn't believe some of the trouble we've had :/

I had one weird taxi where i used Kakao, i guess from my profile knew i wasn't from there. When I got in I realised the door and the window was locked.

Interesting… the window definitely should not be locked. But sometimes maybe they lock the door to make sure you don’t run out without paying? Still uncomfortable for sure 😖

I know the app has asked me what my phone number is in the past…. So I can’t say for sure. What I can say is that without a phone number you run the risk of the taxi canceling on you because usually they try to call you when they’re close… if you don’t answer, they often cancel the ride on you… so, if you can call the taxi, make sure to be at the location READY to get in the car (IF you can call the taxi without a phone number). Sorry I can’t help more! I’m not in Korea to check at this moment

Regular credit card is fine! I would always use a card (refer to timestamp 6:52). Luggage can go in the trunk or backseat (or both... if it fits, you're good to go with NO extra charge)

My first time in a taxi and they tried to rip my friend off by charging him $100 more 😅 Also if we go out and drink and take a taxi back home, some of them will lock the windows up, and speed and make sharp turns so they can up charge you for throwing up in the taxi. Some also had over charged on thrown up passengers

If I'm leaving from train station in busan or Seoul to my hotel, can I request a taxi on kakao taxi.. Or have to take one of the taxis around the station? Also for paying with tmoney card.. Do I tap it myself (how to know where to tap it) or the driver will do? Finally do they help you automatically to load and unload ur luggage from the back of the car or do u have to ask.. Or u do it yourself urself

Does the express train subway stop at Sinnonhyeon Station from terminal 1 from incheon airport? I know the All stop subway train does. What bus number you take from incheon airport to Sinnonhyeon Station? Do you have any idea?

Yep! 😊 What I usually do that myself! But I think taxis are a good back-up (if you get lost or something - keep your accommodation address in your phone or on a piece of paper in your wallet and you can just show it to the taxi driver if needed~)

I'm Korean and Taxis are infamous among Koreans as well. for their ripping off of foreigners, insurance scams targeting every drivers (not just foreigners), reckless driving etc. Taxi drivers are REALLY unpopular among many Koreans. especially who drives.

Great info!!! I’ll be visiting in a month and researching public trans and methods of payments. Did you leverage google maps to navigate through Korea? I’m in Chicago and google maps has the option to drive, walk, public trans etc.

When you call a taxi on the app will they pick you up where you are standing? Like if you are in a carport? Also do you ask to put the luggage in the trunk yourself or should you wait for the driver to open the trunk and do it themselves? (I’ve never been in any taxi so I don’t know anything about them really)

It will pick you up where you set the location (but you can also see the current location of the taxi - so you can meet them if they, for some random reason, are a little off on the location). They will always help you put your luggage in the trunk but…. Usually the drivers are older men and I feel bad to make them do that (because my luggage is always so heavy haha) so I always say “I can do it” in formal Korean hahaha

Sadly, unless you have an ARC, you cannot register your card in the taxi app mentioned and you have to pay for the taxi after the ride is complete…

I don’t know if I got ripped off but the other day I encountered a horrible cab driver. I asked if he could take me from Seoul to Incheon and he said ok but later he cussed and swear. Then a woman called him and he was complaining to her on the phone. Later he kept driving from 30km/hr to 81km/hr to even 112km/hr. I kept checking with him if he was ok and he initially pretended he couldnt hear me so I persisted and he said he is ok yet still drive like a madman. Later at a toll station, he suddenly cut infront of another car and nearly got into an accident. When I tried to take photos of the scenery he would step on the accelerator. In the end he charged me about 60+KRW? I was a little dizzy so I just paid it in cash as my T money card didn’t have enough. I forget to take down his car plate number which I really regretted.

Hmmmm... I think maybe you don’t understand the point I was making with this video. I explained that this can happen in *any* country but that it did happen to me twice here in South Korea (the third time I was able to stop it because I knew what they were doing). Many taxi drivers here are WONDERFUL people who are so kind! But, sadly, in *every* country there are people who will take advantage of you if they can. This video is to simply inform others (especially foreigners) of the ways in which taxi drivers in EVERY country could *potentially* rip you off and to be aware of how it could happen. In the video, I stated that using Kakao taxi is the best option to avoid this. I love South Korea and in no way is this video intended to be negative towards South Korea. I am just spreading awareness to help others in the future ❤️

I had one incident in Myeongdong when a Korean friend of mine wanted me to pick her up at 4 am in Hongdae so i came out of my Hostel in myeongdong and went to the main street and flagged a silver taxi down as i knew bout the coloured taxi :) and the taxi pulled up saw me and just drove off hahaha this happened 4 times before i was able to get a taxi to take me to Hongdae :) now it wasn't discrimination or anything like that, i was told as the older generation don't have or any English speaking ability they just avoid contact with it and that's why they drove off haha

I will be going South Korea in 2 months and was planning on catching a taxi from Suyu station to my Airbnb. Would you recommend using public transport to get closer to my destination rather than a taxi there from the airport or taxi straight there from the airport? (Need to get to gangbuk-gu).

If you’re looking to save some money, which personally I am always trying to do, I always take the subway closer to Seoul and taxi the rest of the way. However, many people could never be bothered and are worried to navigate a new area with a lot of luggage. So, if you’re really tired or have a lot of luggage you could always save yourself the hassle and just taxi the whole way there - truly up to you and your wallet 😊

Yes for taxi. No for everything else, . You will need two t money cards, one for each person on bus, subway, train.

For bus, you can actually use one tmoney for 2 people. Just let the bus driver know beforehand that it's for two people before tapping your tmoney. They will adjust accordingly.
