Great video. To anyone reading, I highly recommend getting a SIM card WITH a phone number because a couple restaurants I visited in Seoul in June 2024 on my 2 week trip required you to put your Korean number down and you get a text when it's your turn to enter the restaurant. The restaurants I went to that required a number had a black podium type thing outside the restaurant.

Tip for getting a pocket WiFi (WiFi egg): I did bring my power-bank with me to charge the thing and you can charge your phone also. especially If you're on a long (day) trip. Trazy did help me a lot in preparing for my trip. They have great options for WiFi and sim cards!! personally I don't like public WiFi. you never know if someone is watching/recording you with a clone WiFi access point (creating a look a like WiFi-point but if you connect with it they can see your data, like if you do online banking/payments)

I got an eSIM when I went on my trip recently and I only purchased one with unlimited data because I didn’t think I needed to call or text anyone because I have Facebook messenger and stuff. But when it came to buying a train ticket online, I needed my phone number linked to my bank account in order to confirm the purchase. That was difficult and stressful until I realized I can switch back to my American SIM card and use call and text if I’m connected to WiFi 😂

Megan, appreciate all your tips. My cell phone carrier here in the United States is T Mobile. The Magenta Max 55+ plan I am on includes international data and unlimited text messaging in South Korea. Voice calls, regardless of whether international or not, is 25 cents a minute. Anyone on that plan can view the caps on data through their plan benefits, in store or calling customer care. Looking forward to my trip soon.

i LOVE your video, but one thing you missed to mention is that if you get a "regional" eSim with a calling/text plan, then you'll get an international country code, which will cost local Koreans International fees to call you. It's probably better to get a local South Korean eSim, instead of regional.

I got the Airalo e-sim for 10 days (admittedly very short period). Absolutely brilliant and the 5G speeds in South Korea were insane. Unlimited data too for around $30. Well worth it and easy to install. Also enabled me to keep my existing phone number. 🇰🇷👍

Thanks for the video! I’m heading to Korea next month and plan to get an Airalo plan. However, I read that Airalo eSims had a tendency to drop in Korea and people had to manually select KT as the wireless provider. Did you experience anything like that? And are the speeds 5G?

This was great timing for me, thank you sooooo much!!! I do have a question, Megan 😊 Would it be viable to get a SIM card through Trazy and then convert it to an eSIM? I’m asking because my current phone does accept physical SIM cards, but I just got a new one that doesn’t. And I do need to have a phone number cause I’m staying for 6 months and it’s required by the school I’ll be attending. While trying to figure out my new phone I realized it offers the option to convert a sim into an eSIM so I’m wondering if that might be easier and more convenient for me. What do you think? Thanks in advance, your videos have been a lifesaver for me!!! ❤

Some of the plans in Trazy does seem cheaper if someone would travel for 30days and wouldn't use up the data before the plan ends. However, based on my personal experience, I still prefer to go directly to book directly at the airport counters if I want a local korean number + unli data for several days.

We're excited for our trip to South Korea in June-July. Yes, it will be hot, but one of us has lived in West Africa. Mint Mobile offers: 10-day pass: 500 mins, 500 texts & unlimited data with 10GB of high-speed data for $20. We can buy two passes to cover the entire trip. Would that be more logical than SIM? Would we be able to use the phone for restaurants and transit purchases? Merci et 감사합니다

Hmmm… since I haven’t used it myself it is hard to say! I will add my thoughts though: I wonder how good the signal will be here in Korea. You’re not guaranteed great connection (just high-speed and you don’t even know what they consider high-speed). I would look into that!

From what I have learned about eSIM is that it blows out your phone’s settings in an irreversible way. Is that true? I just need the connection for the trip and then to switch back on return to home country. If switching back is nuked, who would do that?

@@Irys1997 No - just switch off the data roaming on your normal sim card so that the phone doesn't try to use your normal provider connection. Just make sure that you install the e-sim in a good WiFi area. Once it's installed, you'll see two sets of bars on the screen - one for your normal carrier (voice calls) and one for your data (can use WhatsApp and Kakao on this).

I’ve only ever deleted maybe one or two comments and it was months ago (because they were leading people astray with wrong information). I welcome genuine correction because I like to improve myself as a person! But something tells me, if you don’t see your comment anymore, other people either marked it as not appropriate or whatever you said was distasteful and the computer automatically deleted it. Either way, I would encourage you to check your own heart before you post something. There are real humans on the other side of the screen who often don’t have as thick of skin - thankfully I do because God helps me see my true worth and identity (and it’s certainly not in what others think of me). I would hope you would never say this comment to someone’s face. Let’s love one another in this world. You never know what someone might be going through. I do wish you the best
