Thank you, sir. Had my Canon since 2010 and taken all across home and abroad and have remained stuck on automode. My regret is I’ve missed many an opportunity to create better/superior shots. I know want quality over quantity and you are opening my eyes to this

Mr. Houghton, Finding your videos illuminating the vagaries and details of properly using this wonderful camera, the SX700 HS (I just acquired one after months of deliberation) has been nothing short of a blessing to me. I've even after your videos to a very short list of useful things I've found on the WWW. Patient, thorough and delivered in a comforting 'instructors' voice. Very well done indeed. For me and all who aren't able to send a note. My, our, heartfelt thanks. .

Can't wait to try some different things I've learned. I need to make some flash cards from the notes I've taken, until it all because 2nd nature.

Thanks for helping me understand how to override the exposure value on my Canon SX710 (very similar to SX700). (I had difficulty figuring this out on my own - and I'm a fairly technical guy), At any rate, I'm looking forward to creating my own HDR "high dynamic range" compositions by adjusting the exposure and then merging the results in Photoshop. Wish me luck.

Hi Graham I bought this camera 10 days ago canon SX620 HS from jessops I asked the man to set it up for me so I could take clear sharp photos straight away as I was going on holiday for a few days he had it in auto mode for me said it would take fantastic pictures ,got home took pictures and they were terrible very out of focus very grainy and lots of noise it looked like I had taken them from a very old camera phone was not pleased at all called them up said I wanted to change it for another camera man said fine not a problem ,then I seen your video and changed all the settings to what you said then wow wot a difference sharp clear and no noise ,why the man from jessops didn't ask to go through the settings I don't know ,I was very frustrated messing with all my settings going from auto to manual for about a week ,my question is you know you set your iOS to 100 should I keep it at that all the time all say in doors out doors and night time I just photograph normal every day things family dogs children and scenery I just like my photos to be clear no noise and not grainy should I keep my settings iso at 100 hope you are still on here to help me out .cheers jon

Hi, thanks for the comment. The 1/125 @ f11 with ISO 100 was a 'golden number' for film days. Not many of the compact digital cameras actually have a f11 aperture, most stop at f8 so 1/250 is the sunny setting now and 1/25 the cloudy.

I bought replacement batteries from Amazon but they are also widely available on other sites such as EBAY, just search for batteries the canon powershot model you have to bring up the suppliers.

That's interesting. A neighbour has just done a similar course which was just 3 hours long - really insufficient once you go through introductions, health and safety and have a coffee break in there. I used to teach photography ( a few years ago now) and I had thought of trying to find a like minded partner to offer tuition. I approached one lady who does street photography but she didn't feel confident enough to do it so I stepped back a little. I'll email you.

Hi, it sounds like the camera is selecting a long shutter time because the level of light is very low. If you are indoors and the flash is enabled you should not get this effect. Are you indoors? are you using the pop up flash in auto mode? Try using just the Auto mode as this will select the correct scene type for you when it recognises faces

Thanks again for the comment, its a nice camera but a little short of wide angle at 28mm compare to the HX20v 24mm. It really does make a difference the extra 4mm for landscape and cityscape picture.

Usually the software workflow always sets the ISO to the lowest ISO in the P mode and then moves F stop after setting shutter to a value which will prevent camera shake. You should see a change in shutter speed.

@GrahamHoughton1210 жыл бұрын
ot very well, these small sensor cameras have lots of depth of field. the only way to get that look is to use maximum telephoto and get as close to your subject as you can and then keep the subject as far away from the background as you can

There is no direct way i know of to set the focus area. There nearest you can achieve is to set focus tracking on the subject you want to be in focus and then recompose the shot.

@GrahamHoughton1210 жыл бұрын
In a way to produce nicely out of focus backgrounds with this camera you have to follow these steps. The camera should be set to full zoom, the aperture set to its widest ( using aperture priority mode AV) get as close to your subject as you can and keep the subject far away from the background. Also try to find a background that is not too busy - plain is best. You will achieve some shallow depth of field with a good amount of background defocus using this method.
