The 3 most popular cars in 2023 (according to Carparison) were Tesla Model Y. MG4, and Audi Q4 e-tron, none of the ones you mentioned here.

the MG4 has only been out a couple of years so maybe until they start coming off their lease at 3 years there will not be many bargains to be had.
@authuruksake9693 ай бұрын
MG4's are starting to come down, owners are realising how dangerous the driver assist is, I think I'll just stand on the brakes for no reason says the MG4... Sure you can disable it, but it's enabled every time you start the car again (all EU July '2022 cars) Originally, you just got the odd tremor if deviating slightly, ensure you indicate if overtaking a bus etc... But lately, the car just slammed on the brakes when it "thought" say a cyclist cut in front of you & this began to happen more & more frequently - bloody dangerous Decided to send it back (Salary sacrifice scheme), after 13 months, & this was before the hit piece in the Daily Fail Lovely car - no question, even with the terrible buggy MG app on your phone (jeez every update it just got worse), could live with buggy app, but the car's drivers assist, made every journey very worrying if it would just stop dead for some reason & hope nobody goes into the back of MG4. Lovely car, the poorly programmed/buggy driver assist software made driving it, just too risky for my liking Only had the base SE model, still lovely car, but I dread to think, if you was blasting the beefy X-Power model and the car thought there was a hazard ahead. MG - you really got to fix your software issues asap

Presumably it is the EVs with the longer warranty that will hold their values. Kia, Hyundai, MG for example have (limited) 7-year warranty. Others usually have a 3-year period, so the 2020 or 2021 plates from Vauxhall, Nissan, Peugeot, etc. will be dropping in price more heavily as the risk to the buyer is perceived as higher. It would be interesting to do a feature about whether manufacturer's warranty makes any real difference to reliability.

Enjoyed the video. Some really good buys there, although the new Fiat Panda and Citroen C3 EVs are very competitively priced at 22K even when brand new, and more cars will follow in this price range.

Thanks Johnathan, very useful. Some advice if I may? ENIRO 4+ approved used from dealer or from auction? Cost from auction with fees ~1k less than Kia dealer, but no way of checking for mechanical issues - motor, gear reduction etc or battery SOH? Thank you in advance.

You need to ask your self these questions: 1) how inconvenient is it for you to go to the auction or recieve delivery. 2) is the time spent at an auction worth more than your saving? 3) Are you confident you will stick to your budget when the car you want goes 200 or 500 over your allocated budget? 4) Is the dealer trustworthy, local or convenient? 5) You might not win a car are you willing to try again and still stick with your budget?

So looking at Volvo EX30 Twin performance standing in the dealers it’s “Yes sir very nice that will be £43k” but the crazy thing is the same spec Car with 1200 miles six months old one owner or registered you can find second hand £35k fully loaded😮 Unless that 1200 miles was all rally stages that’s some immediate price drop and more like it. 1200 miles is just a car run in and decent saving from new.

A friend of mine was looking at a Polestar 2 the other day. You can get a 71 reg plate with 37k miles, long range single motor for £22,500. I couldn't believe the drop in price from new. .....Not holding their price very well.

Nice one, seems that EV prices are seasonal like some ice vehicles, convertibles go up in the spring. 4WD in the autumn (I am generalising) still expecting EVs to go down a lot in winter.👍
@alexmaple43 ай бұрын
But what are the equivalent residual values for ICE cars? The Tesla lost over £30,000 in four years. Over £8,000 of depreciation per year. Would an ICE car go from £51k to £17k in that time?

S/H EV prices went stupidly high during the very high fuel prices, at the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine; have the CAP values actually adjusted back from that peak?

Would be interesting to see difference between niro 3 and 4+. Id also be interested to see if trade buyers effectively end up buying blind on the cars like the Niro with respect to battery state of health (because the SoH needs diagnostics to read) and perhaps also validity of the Kia warranty coverage? What do they do about that? Third party guarantees?

Do you want to do a % value retained vs comparable ICE cars? Would that be interesting?
@rogerstarkey53903 ай бұрын
It's not quite comparable yet. There's still an element of "New Technology pricing" built into EVs. As the production ramps, they are BOUND to get cheaper. (Tesla told you this)
@sargfowler96033 ай бұрын
I've seen this mentioned on other channels citing the BMW 3 series as an example. The ICE car retained most of its value, but the EV version lost half in a couple of years. The ICE was still seen as desirable, but the EV were difficult to sell on. BTW, are EVs a regional thing? I imagine everyone in London wanting one, but further out, demand is lacking.
