I had carotid endarterectomy surgery, I had a great surgeon. Life is completely normal after 3 weeks but I went to work within a week as long as it didn't pick up more than 10 lbs. Anybody that's concerned about being frightened yeah I got that I was nervous too but once I had the surgery I realized boy that wasn't so bad at all. Once they woke me up I feel like I wanted to go out and do my normal stuff but I had to be in the ER for at least 20 hours and then I was home. So for anybody having questions or doubts the surgery is very common and I suggest removing the plaque instead of having a stent.

Can you describe your symptoms before diagnosis, please?
@pacificbuildingcare Жыл бұрын
@@funkyluvit hum let's see, well if you hear something like squeezing a garden hose like a a blood flow in your neck that's an indication you have blockage. I think I noticed the noise for at least two and a half years before it got worse. You'll need to do an ultrasound first because your insurance will cover that first and then they get the prognosis then you go for MRI, which will definitely tell you what the blockage is. Ultrasound is not 100% adequately where an MRI will. If you do have it I'll tell you not to worry about it. A good doctor we'll take the plague out and you'll be a hundred percent after no need for a stint. I never had surgery before and I was very nervous but when I had the surgery I couldn't believe how quick it was I was talking and watching TV right after surgery and I was home the next day which I drove home. I was able to work within a few days just can't pick up more than 10 lbs and I was a hundred percent 3 weeks. One thing if you do have blockage in your carotid artery and you do have it removed. I noticed after surgery I had three bad headaches and that's just from the hundred percent blood flow which is perfectly normal. There are doctors out there all do it make a living at it and it's no big deal.don't worry you're in good hands with the right doctor make sure you ask the questions how many procedures do they do a month and a year for example. The doctor I went to did five of the surgeries a month and he's been a surgeon for 40 years I was so pleased he and his brother were general surgeons and they both did the surgery. As nervous as I was if I had to do it again I would because the procedure was good experience as I'm grateful to good doctors.

@@pacificbuildingcare thank you for your detailed response! I intermittently hear my pulse loudly in my left ear for about 10-30 seconds when I’m laying with the left side of my face on the pillow. I’m not sure why and my doctor didn’t seem concerned. I’m glad you got the help you needed. Stay positive.
@pacificbuildingcare Жыл бұрын
@@funkyluvit yeah that sounds familiar. When I went to go see my doctor telling those things he also said I looked okay too but I requested an ultrasound anyways. Boy was he wrong as the ultrasound came back and they said I had like 50% to 65% blockage then I had the MRI that camed out it was like 80% to 85% blockage. From the MRI I had surgery about a month later. Please request an ultrasound you know you may be fine but an ultrasound will tell you first. Once you get the ultrasound in the results then you'll need an MRI I would avoid doing a cat-scan because you don't want that extra radiation. Anyways if you get the ultrasound and it comes back as - just know that I'm giving you from my experience I did this. When I got the phone call on the ultrasound I just was really nervous and then I had to take an MRI and then that phone call and I got really nervous. You know I'm a young active person was really confused that my I have good health I thought you didn't have to worry about this but it could happen to anybody. Please listen to your body as you want to be up on it so you have everything rest assured. If you find something you respond and get it fixed, I know the feeling that you have to go through this but know I did it and I realized after what I did in a matter of like 4 weeks of dealing with this and it was done I just had to stay home for a few days. I'm self-employed and I run a business so as I was worried about making sure my clients will be okay. Lucky I had a helper that that helps out with my business. Yeah so get that checked, the sooner the better whatever you find you just respond to it as quick as possible so you don't have to worry about it later.

I have carotid stenosis caused by neck radiation for throat cancer 11 years ago. Doc dosen't want to do surgery because of tissue damage I have already and I'm asymtomatic and have been this way for some time. I agree with Surgeon because about 80% of folks like me have a stroke while on operating table. 100% blockage on right side and 70-90 % left. I just have a hard time finding info on this.

@@Fun_Food_travel_with_me Don't know. Just discovered blockage 2 years ago. I didn't see any Docs for about 8 years. Vascular surgeon says it's been this way for a while. Right side is 100% and left is 70 to 90%. Just had my annual ultrasound. No change. The radiation scars the intima, the interior lining of the carotid. Scientists think the radiation damages the endothelial cells that make up the intima. My surgeon says even stenting could be a problem as scar tissue could collapse stent.

Well I have heard about the new carotid artery surgery which is a smaller incision, less risk to damage nerves & best of all less risk of causing a stroke with pieces traveling to your brain. It's called the TCAR. It is a shorter recovery time as well. The only thing I think may B true is they put a stent in, but maybe not. It is new & finding a doctor in your city who has done at least 100 TCAR operations is a good start to find doctors who can preform this procedure safely & well. Just thought I would let folks know about this since this video did NOT speak about it. I think it was done by doctors who have not done a TCAR or may not even know about this procedure. Not sure. Don't know this channel "Zero To Finals." I am older than U and on the edge of serious block carotid artery blockage. Mine is 69% which is on the border of moderate, but I also have COPD which is a serious oxygen problem as well. I am deathly afraid to say the least. I feel damed if I d surgery & damned if I don't. Meaning I worry about just MANAGING the symptoms.. I don't like my cholesterol too low since the body needs it & it is a big part of your body, but since I have lots of plaque I may have to take something like a statin to stop the plaque from going further. I'm not so young anymore & fear I would die soon after such a surgery. I hear many people don't live more than 5 yrs. after that surgery when they R old & have comorbidity such as I have.. So very fearful & then finding a top vascular surgeon who accepts my insurance is the next big hurdle. Felt like sharing this with U.

I went from trace atherosclerosis two years ago to 50% and 70% occlusion in just two years. Doctors are unable to explain how this could have happened. I didn't have any risk factors either. I never smoked drank or did drugs. Low BMI of 19, low cholesterol 127, normal blood sugar, normal blood pressure. They can't operate on it because they are intracranial occlusions. The extra cranial part is clear. All they could do is prescribe anti-platelet medication. They said it could delay but not prevent further strokes. I think I am screwed.

The nurses told her Drs are wrong and she should seek other help. Have you ever heard of someone not being able to have it cleared if its 100 percent Not to mention radiology never reviewed her CTA She was advised from a Hospital cardiologist that said he looked at the CTA results
