SAME! But thankful mine is in a REALLY early stage due to an illness for almost 3 years that left me mostly bed ridden. I'm working on my stamina because I know mine is from inactivity and heredity (both parents had it). I was a dancer for many years and was hard on my legs. I pay close attention to my body signals and could just feel something wasn't right.

Odd co-incidence, but i met a guy who owns a chain of private clinics in Holland, who is also a Doctor, the day after i read a paper regarding leg ulcer treatment. It turned out that it was one of his clinics that discovered that hyperbaric 100% Oxygen treatment at 2 Bar for one hour a week not only worked amazingly well with leg ulcers, but also increased telomere length. Reading about the discovery, then the chance meeting both blew me away ! Your KZbin videos are absolutely priceless. Superb work you are doing. Extremely well done.

It also helps if you keep your legs elevated higher than your heart since your blood in your legs can’t get back up to your heart by pumping it up, gravity will drain it back, but you have to keep your legs higher than your heart like when you sleep at night or sitting watching TV for hours. My mother had this and when she had a stroke she was in bed for 10 days before she died and I couldn’t believe how much the swelling went down in her legs. You have to wrap your legs with ace bandages in the morning before you get out of bed, because after a few hours of being up, the blood starts to pool down there again. It’s a lifelong condition that you have to live with, wrapping your legs.

I had veinous ulcers just above both ankles. Surgical treatment included arterial stents and angioplasty in the most severe leg. 4 layer compression wraps have been worn for a year, changed every other day. Santyl is applied directly to the wound after cleaning with dakins bleach and the surrounding area by betadyne. I can now report that one leg has entirely healed and the other is now 95% there. I will have to wear compression stockings after the wraps are no longer required. Get a good cardiovascular surgeon and home wound care if you have Medicare. Bad circulation can lead to neuropathy in your feet, or the loss of them.

This happened to me when I was 36 years old and 110 lbs. The doctor's in the hospital told me that it was bad vasculitis from standing and walking on my feet to long. They done a lot of tests on me and told me that i was a borderline diabetic and that I have Lupus and heart problems and high blood pressure. Now that I am older I stay off my feet as much as possible because they still swell and hurt. I have the scars from the ulcers and nerve damage in my foot. I hope that my legs and feet will never get like that again because it was scary and painful. Thank you for explaining it and educating us about it.

My house shoes and socks were wet with blood and fluid. It was so bad in my left leg and foot that the doctor told me that they might have to amputate it but I begged them not to do it. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks and spent two years going to the wound care clinic. They told me to keep a close watch on my legs and feet incase of a relapse. Now when I see someone with swollen legs and feet I tell them to go to their doctor. Because it's not nothing to ignore. I learned the hard way. It is serious.

@@TomA-i4p low risk of secondary lymphedema with ELVA or RFA at a competent vascular/vein center. These procedures are done under ultrasound guidance and it's easy to avoid any lymph nodes in the groin as most of them are above the saphenofemoral junction and if they aren't, are avoided completely. There is small risk of subcutaneous nerves being severed during phlebectomies, but these are usually localized to the area and either heal over time, or the patch of numbness is small and doesn't bother you. source: RVT for a decade at a large accredited vascular center (~350 EVLAs a year)

From my experience and research, the problem can lead to cellulitis. Without proper blood, flow to our legs, we are susceptible to infection. If my legs were swollen, I couldn’t wear anything that rubbed against the skin, or an ulcer would start to develop. One thing I don’t understand, was as soon as I started to take the antibiotic, Everything got better even the swelling. My doctor had to try a few different antibiotics until finally Duricef worked.

A triple-bypass at age 44 caused, after age 68, problems in both calves. The left calf was where a vein was removed for the cardiac by-pass, I developed problems in the calves of both legs, The left leg forms oozing ulcers, extremely tight skin, red discoloration of the flesh, and flaking of skin after the oozing ulcers heal, until the next time it occurs. At age 78, my first oozing ulcer developed in the right calf. I've discovered I have to wear tight compression bindings on both legs, knee to ankle, nearly 24 hours a day. But even that won't eliminate the ulcers. The left leg ulcers form along the scarred area where the vein for the by-pass was removed and behind the scar in the lower calf. I also developed varicose veins in the left leg. It is wearying and tiresome to care for this chronic problem, Better than being dead? Yeah. Keep your legs elevated? BS. You have to live your life and the needed elevation is too time consuming to remedy "better health" results. You can't lie around with elevated legs 23 hours a day.

Hello Miriam, despite being 4 months late this may still be useful, I'm 60 yr.'s old and damaged my right leg at the age of 9. By the age of 30 I started with my first ulcer and since then I've been through this problem 4x. In all of it the worst part is not getting to someone in a timely manner, just long days and nights in a lot of pain...waiting. The required outpatient surgery only takes about an hour. I call to set up an appointment as soon as I'm sure of a problem because I'm trying to 'nip it in the bud' and they know me and are familiar with the problem, yet I can never get in before 2 months has passed even with the help of my PCP. When I get there, they acknowledge that there is in fact a problem, they then admire it look at it with their ultrasound come up with a plan and then send me home for 2 more months. The problem has now been allowed to fester for 4 months, the foot is literally rotting due to insufficiency there's an open hole on the right medial ankle the size of a quarter its nearly a quarter inch deep and a cesspool of infection and I know damn well that if they could get to the underlying cause within a week or maybe 2 it would save me on the whole about 6 months of pain and suffering, an equal amount of lost work and at least a half dozen trips to the wound clinic for debriding plus sort of having to learn to walk again. Unfortunately for me there are few alternatives. If you can, see if there are other surgeons in your area, use your PCP keep your options open. PS The best way to stave this off is to wear your sock every day and stay active...don't become complacent this issue doesn't age well and will crop up when you least expect it. A Dr. once told me 'Let us know if it starts to smell', I hope that's something you never hear.

Can’t tolerate those stockings, expensive but so tight I can’t stand it! I now wear some more comfortable and bigger size, they work! But I’m on blood thinners and ankle swelling is going down. I have a clot on my lung. Cause doctor did nothing for me, I asked and asked! Almost died. I have no faith in him! Er doctor is doing more for me. My left leg is twice the size of right ankle. I even showed him. Like two completely different legs ugh

Can I ask a question and not take it wrong. Are you over weight ?. Reason I ask is I need this procedure done but to get it done there’s a lot of risk so I’m not sure to go through with it or not?? I weigh 260 and the doctor said she can do the surgery but i have to be sure I’m not gonna gain anymore weight. Which know when already a bigger girl goes and says..Hey I need to gain more pounds!! I have A autoimmune disease so my medication makes me go and down so in size. So what’s a girl to do??

I've been suffering from this since early 20's (first noticed small, inexplicable pale spots on calves) after developing the bad habit of falling asleep sitting up on a recliner or couch (also bad habit of sleeping with the telly on, which disrupts sleep btw). Eventually it worsened with edema & cardiovas. disease. Most recently I suspect I have COPD, kidney disease w/ rheumatic heart disease due to ignorance & not following the full doseage of antibiotics that first time I got strep throat infection at 17; Now I'm susceptible to tonsillitis if I fail to thoroughly dry myself after a bath 💀 ALWAYS TAKE THE FULL ANTIBIOTICS DOSEAGE WHEN A DR. INSTRUCTS YOU TO, ESPECIALLY A STREP INFECTION ; Stop being ignorant & arrogant to medicine; TAKE YOUR HEALTH MORE SERIOUS AS YOU AGE.

Im 33 and im getting this , my legs are going numb, I have discoloration on the tops of my feet it looks like pepper flakes, starting to get redness in the ankles lower legs, and it all the sudden just started getting bad... I had some feet swelling last year and I wasn't sure what was going on but it went away... Now this is all the sudden started happening and it's really bad I can't even cross my leg... If I do it affects my whole body I can even start feeling numbness in my hands... I don't even have health insurance I don't know what to do... 😟😞😥 Im having trouble dealing with thid mentally it's making me very depressed... I've struggled with drug addiction, opiates to be specific and I feel like that's one of the main reasons I'm having this issue. On top of that I'm overweight I'm like 5'10 and weigh 215-220 so I know that can affect it being overweight and also I've worked in the restaurant industry since I was 17, standing 10 to 12 hours a day for over 7 years... I just recently started a job where I'm not standing for 12 hours a day for the first time in years... I'm just not handling this well, I'm too young for this to be happening and it's affecting my life very negatively and really only just begun to have symptoms like I'm saying the last 2 weeks...
