On June 5th, a real estate industry insider in Shanghai appeared on Fuxing Middle Road, pointing to the deserted buildings on both sides of the street, "This place used to be packed with foreigners. Now, there's not a single foreigner around, only Chinese. All the foreigners have left." Following this, he brought up the rent situation in Shanghai. He said that in places like Mingyuan Century City, Jiali Garden, Huijing Garden, and Wutong Garden, the rent was usually tens of thousands per month, and the tenants were all foreigners. "These are the world's top 500 multinational companies. They're rich and spend company money. Now they're gone, and these houses are empty."

A very brillliant, beautiful lady, a teacher with rare "objectivity," scientific objectivity, on the issue of the "Chinese characteristics" of the Chinese economy. Indeed she has qualities of leadership--strength of soul and extraordinary knowledge of pragmatic governance. CNN should invite her for an interview, so that Americans can better understand the real China, as opposed to the narrow view fed us by our elites, who fear China because they have no knowledge of China.

I agree with everything you said, except that I don't think any U.S. mainstream media, such as CNN & Fox, would invite her for an interview. Why would American politicians bother getting any truths out there to the American people? They need a common bipartisan enemy in order to shift the focus away from its own domestic problems. And the best target for that is China. The U.S. government is a corporation & military industrial complex fed and lobbied entity that thrives on warmongering. It would do anything to keep the uneducated uneducated and biased. Just as Professor Sachs said in Piers Morgan's interview "I know a lot of these congressmen. They are not very intelligent..."

@@wanderingfido China’s $23 trillion local debt mess is about to get worse. A line of empty shops in Hegang, on March 31, 2023. The heavily indebted city was forced to undergo unprecedented financial restructuring. BLOOMBERG . Goldman Sachs Group estimates China’s total government debt is about $23 trillion, a figure that includes the hidden borrowing of thousands of financing companies set up by provinces and cities. Unlike a corporate debt restructuring, or a municipal bankruptcy in the U.S., a fiscal restructuring in China doesn’t imply creditors must take losses on what they’re owed. Problems are evident in other cities as well. Shangqiu, a city of 7.7 million people in China’s central Henan province, made headlines recently after almost shutting down its only bus service. In Wuhan and Guangzhou, proposed cuts to pensioners’ medical benefits prompted rare street protests earlier this year. Civil servants in wealthy cities like Shanghai are reportedly having their pay slashed. In Guizhou province, officials have begged Beijing for a bailout. Diya, a 33-year-old singer and music teacher who asked to be identified by his stage name, moved to Hegang two years ago from Shanghai - a place, he said, where “even if I try my best and work 24 hours a day, I won’t be able to make enough money to become rich or own a home.” He can now afford to own three properties in the city, including his current home, a 50-square-meter third-floor walk-up apartment for 40,000 yuan - about 1% of the cost of a similarly sized place in Shanghai. Outside the city’s largest hospital, a middle-aged orderly wearing green scrubs and a mask said her employers unilaterally changed her work contract from a government-run medical facility to a third-party vendor, reducing benefits like paid overtime for working on holidays. Her monthly wage of 1,600 yuan ($228) had been delayed by more than 10 days every month since late last year. “I’m upset about the situation,” said the woman, who asked not to be identified in order to talk freely about her work conditions, as she pushed a wheelchair loaded with flattened cardboard boxes to an outdoor recycling point. “Everything is so expensive. I can barely get three square meals a day.” Every day, a group of aging coal workers dressed in worn-out military parkas gather from dawn at a Hegang roadside. Shovels in hand, they hope to get work for the day loading coal onto trucks and trains. One of them, Zhang, said she can earn 100 yuan, or around $15, on a good day. But more often, she’s lucky to get just 10 or 20 yuan for “exhausting” work. “We have no subsidies, no pension,” said Zhang, 66, who asked to be identified by her surname. “I won’t retire unless I’m physically no longer able to work.”

Largest the listing wave in history . $1.71 Billion Foreign Capital withdrawn in China. This phenomenon can trigger a ripple effect When people see many others selling off and cashing in their holdings. It psychologically impacts them and this effect is amplified. A lackluster recovery in China's economy is prompting investors to change their strategies. Not only are foreign investors pulling out more money from China's stock market, flocking to other major Asian markets instead, but shareholders of Chinese listed companies are also cashing in by reducing their holdings. Moreover, China's A-share market is witnessing its largest delisting wave in history. Multiple indicators suggest that the Chinese stock market has entered a bear market. On June 6, China's main A-share index fell sharply again following a decline the previous day. The Shanghai Composite Index fell by 1.15%, dropping below the 3200 point mark, hitting its lowest level since January 13. 90% of stocks declined that day, with industries like electronics, semiconductors, power, military, and sensors suffering the most, led by a drop in Apple concept stocks. Luxshare Precision, a key Apple concept stock, fell by 7.34%, GoerTek Inc. by 6.85%, and Shenzhen Everwin Precision Technology by a staggering 18.92%. Meanwhile, foreign capital continued to withdraw; on June 6, foreign investors sold off 1.08 billion yuan (approximately 151 million USD) via the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, a key cross-border channel between mainland China and Hong Kong stock exchanges. If China was aiming to be peaceful, why would they build aircraft carriers? Those are designed to project military power abroad, so as a defensive system, they are quite limited. If China was truly serious about peace, would they not build military bases on the Spratly islands like they promised? If China was really committed to being good to all people, would they not abide by international rulings on the invalidity of the Nine Dash Line? If China's attitude was for the good of all people, would they not be open and transparent over the origins of COVID19 so that other countries can learn to prevent future outbreaks? Everyone can see the blatant lies that the CCP spout. When world opinion of China has reached a new low, is this the fault of the west or of how China conducts themselves?

Recently, people in Shanghai and Shenzhen have discovered that their personal pensions have plummeted after they joined the so-called nationally coordinated pension program. Hong Kong is also on the radar of the red regme. Since Beijing imposed a comprehensive National Security Law on Hong Kong in 2020, there has been a massive exodus of Hong Kong residents. These people have suffered huge financial losses. Many have had their pension savings withheld. The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced in January 2021 that China would no longer recognize the use of the British National Overseas Passport BNO as an identification document. Do you really believe that the West, especially the US and UK, doesn’t understand China? Having the finest universities in the world and well-oiled think-tanks, the American ruling class understands everything there is to know about China. Their treatments of other countries are based on the principle that they own the world and it’s crime for anyone to sit on the natural resources (hence, we lost China, we lost Vietnam, etc. You can’t lose anything you don’t own 😭). Their win-win strategy is ‘I win, I win’ and their win-lose strategy is ‘I win, you lose’. In September 2022, China's National Health Commission held a press conference to brief its work on seniors since November 2012. Data show that China's senior population over 65 years old reached 191 million in 2020, accounting for 13.5% of the total population. We doubt that the ratio of 13.5%, not 14%, was carefully crafted by the staff because reaching 14% would mean that officially, China was declared to be an aged society. At the same time, the National Health Commission predicted that around 2035, China's senior population aged 60 and above would exceed 400 million, accounting for more than 30% of the population, i.e. entering the super-aged stage. .

The biggest surprise of all would be that China did not surpass America economically. China's population is 4.7 times that of America. Educationally, both quantitatively and numerically, there is no way under the sun that China cannot surpass America. In the 19 70s and '80s, Japan with labor force size half that of America did so well economically that America pulled out all stops to essentially destroy the Japanese economy. Now we look at China with China's obsession of higher education, and China's social mandate to raise the standard of living for all Chinese people, there is no way that China will remain smaller economically and militarily than America. America, like Great Britain, has seen its time in the Sun. Lack of competition worldwide was America's Good Fortune. China will not compete blindfolded and with one hand tied behind its back in order to allow America to continue winning.

She is quite accurate on many of the reasons behind the contentious situation between China and the US, but the fact that the ingrained sense of ethnical superiority in the mind of most westerners and especially their leaders should not be brushed aside. To most westerners and their leaders, it is absolutely inconceivable to have their economy, their technological capabilities and their military might surpassed by another ethnicity especially the Asians. To many including this intelligent young woman, the conflicts/contentions of the past years or even decades were simply products of economical or military competition. In fact, the deepest root cause of such contentions (most if not all were bashing, smearing and containment by the Western powers, via fraudulent accusations) is/was racial and definitely cultural in nature.

If I remember correctly, according to Prof John Mearsheimer ... a) US must always be No. 1 b) US will never allow any country (whether it is Russia, India, China or any other nations) to take over its No. 1 position (even if each of those nations is as democratic as US , with a similar Constitution & voting system). c) US will not hesitate to "destroy or destabilize" the political & economic system of any of them (even if such a destruction or destabilization would cause unnecessary sufferings and hardships to the people). IMO, this is how US is going to maintain the American Exceptionalism and to safeguard its "3-in-1" authority of being the accuser, the prosecutor and the judge to sanction any nation or individual (as it deemed fit and appropriate).

I'm very impressed with Keyu Jin. For those who know China much of what she says is common sense, and yet it is still not understood by the majority in the west. For example, in this interview her remark that China does not want to replace the USA and simply wants to improve its lot in life, that's obvious to anyone who actually understands China, but this message still needs to be communicated to the west so they really get it. If I had any critique of her, it's that she's too Chinese in that she's too courteous and too restrained in how she speaks. I hope more people listen to her and take her message to heart, she's perhaps one of the best communicators I've seen on China for a Western audience.

Half of the country is living at the local normal poverty line. Half of the population is living below poverty line. Which is the normal legal minimum wage under the minimum wage act. This means that the employer is supposed to pay at least enough to reliably pay the rent for one bedroom apartment local commute. The minimum wage is supposed to be enough to reliably pay the rent. This means one weeks pay is equal to one months rent for one bedroom apartment local commute this is a normal business practice and the employer is supposed to be held to the same standard. This today though is the median income.

Listening to this you would think the west just wants to stop China from being successful. No mention of China's military threats to Taiwan, the free navigation of the south China sea, or that the more economically successful they get, the more militarily threatening they get. I would agree that China's economic progress is remarkable, and it's people and the country are admirable, but China is still a totalitarian state, and anyone who criticizes them is threatened by the Chinese government. You can't just ignore the elephant in the room.
@marklee8512
@marklee8512 Жыл бұрын
1) China's military threats to Taiwan? Answer: Taiwan Island is part of China. China is warning separatists in Taiwan against treason, also preventing the US from interfering in its internal issues. 2) Free navigation in the SCS? How about the PLA frequently sending its military jets and naval ships to Florida Bay and areas along California? 3) Militarily threatening? Which country have hundreds of military bases around the world and regularly sends its military jets and naval ships thousands miles away from home soil? 4) Totalitarian state? It's none of your business, 90% of population supports the government, which is the highest approval rate in the world. And it's called metecrioracy, a system that is much better than democracy. 5) Those who criticize are threatened? You mean yourself? You are nobody, no one care anything about you. Are you following too much Western MSM? And most are not criticizing, they are lying and accusing China of committing what it didn't do. 6) Elephant in the room. Elephant generally is a not dangerous animal. By comparison, hyena is more of a concern.

China’s military presence in the SCS is mainly defensive. 80% ofChina’s trade passes through the SCS and a blockage on the strait of Malacca will strangle its trade. It’s a region where various countries like Vietnam, The Phillipines, Brunei and even Taiwan lay their claims on. Yes there are disputes but these nations generally are able to find ways to negotiate without escalating into huge conflicts. Best US stays out of this region which is none of their business. For centuries China , India and the countries around were able to live in harmony long before the colonialists arrived . When the imperialists arrived, they adopted a divide and rule strategy , taking not only their resources but importing cheap labour from India and China to work in the mines,shipyards and plantations. When they left they leave behind divisions among the people . History will repeat itself if one does not learn from it. USA and UK have 900 military bases around the world and yet they are the countries, least to be invaded by others due to its geographical locations ,surrounded by miles and miles of water. So one should questions why its military presence everywhere in the world while China and Russia have only 35 bases between them, China has about 4or 5. US have bases surrounding China. From Darwin, Pine Gap in Australia to thePhillipines,Okinawa,the straits of Taiwan , South Korea and recently getting Japan to re arm . I beg to question why?

What China has done with the country is a great example that liberals freedom doesn’t work…. And discipline does work…. I’m much older and if I was young again I would be moving to China 🇨🇳. USA philosophy of capitalism and democracy and freedom of voting are just a simple propaganda campaign. And only very small percentage of the population will succeed… and the rest is misery and more misery. I hope that all the people in the free world are watching the success of China in the last 40 years…. And those countries will learn from China 🇨🇳. With discipline. we all can accomplish everything.

I guess that Jin pays more attention to economics. The current Ukrainian war may be pushing against the tide. The purpose of the book "The Thucydides Trap" was to avoid it. Now it's a chip war after the trade war. How much can USA do for decoupling or cold war II? Will USA initiate a battery war before it's too late? Remember G7 just criticized the non-market economy without mentioning any country?!
