Complementary and alternative treatments for breast cancer encompass a wide array of therapies and approaches that extend beyond conventional medical interventions. Complementary treatments are used alongside standard medical treatments and aim to enhance their effectiveness or manage side effects. These may include practices such as acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga, meditation, nutritional supplements, and mind-body techniques like relaxation exercises.
On the other hand, alternative treatments are used in place of conventional medical treatments. Examples of alternative treatments for breast cancer may include herbal remedies, dietary changes, energy healing practices like Reiki or Qigong, and unconventional cancer therapies. It's essential for individuals considering these approaches to consult with their healthcare providers, as not all complementary and alternative therapies are supported by scientific evidence, and some may interact with standard treatments or have risks.
The decision to incorporate complementary or alternative treatments into breast cancer care should be made thoughtfully, considering factors such as treatment goals, potential benefits and risks, individual health circumstances, and personal beliefs. Integrating these therapies into a comprehensive treatment plan requires collaboration between patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to ensure safety, efficacy, and holistic support throughout the cancer journey.

Just wondering why radiotherapy isn’t included in NHS predict tool? As I thought that this is viewed as a mainstream treatment. If it is because it doesn’t help the outcome then why are we encouraged to have it? And if it does effect the outcome why isn’t it included on NHS Predict ? Thanks

Hi. Good question. I am not sure why it wasn’t included. But I think they may include it in the next iteration.
