Dela Riva definitely one of my weaker positions. Thank you for the details. Now the hard part, putting them to work.
@JonThomasBJJ2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s tricky at first but super worth the investment to have one, so many positions in jiu jitsu will filter to this guard.

Very nice details coach loved how you use distance and put the de la Riva hook close to the hip, never thought about it, thank you so much.

Yeah the distance is everything to make the dlr hook work well.

Would you ever do a video on breaking pant grips specifically? As a smaller guy I find it's game over when larger opponents get a pant grip on the knee or knees. Kicking out rarely works and sitting up to strip the grip can be difficult.

Thanks for another great video Jon, appreciate it. Question - when you get your non DLR leg stuffed do you ever play chair guard or are you always looking to get that leg back to either a hip or bicep control?
@JonThomasBJJ2 жыл бұрын
I always look to get my leg out asap but you can play that way like Kaynan Duarte and Cobrinha, but it feels a bit forceful to me to stay in that spot.

I wish you would teach my young kids, they just started taking lessons, any advice? Thank you

I would focus on string foundations, basic side escape, pin escapes, guard retention, submissions. It’s less complicated and will make a huge difference down the line

Yeah lol the dlr hook changing side to side is quite tough because you have to constantly change which side you are on to show detail.

Use the stiff arm in the neck and you should be able to keep a lot of space and get the dlr hook.
