Thanks, but one thing you left out, it often boils down to finding an honest, knowledgeable sales person, and unfortunately, that's pretty rare in most places I've been. Your honest descriptions of what things mean are the reason I started watching your videos, and while I can (and do) buy parts online from Messick's, my experience with some un-named dealers has made me wish I wasn't 1500 miles from y'all.

There is a specification that tells a lot more about the capacity of a tractor, than any power output. That spec is Operating Weight. Neil briefly touched the subject when he was talking about loader capacity, but weight is helpful in so many other ways, not least when trying to put that awesome power you were so impressed by, into good use. It doesn't matter if you have the power of a racecar and torque that could move mountains, if all they do is make the drive wheels spin. If I didn't have a PTO implement that needed a specific power, I'd rather have a 2.5-ton tractor with 25 hp than a 1.5-ton tractor with 35 hp.

Understanding spec nuances and doing some amount of comparison does have a part to play in the process though. New Holland even agrees because they have a tool on their website that allows direct spreadsheet style side by side comparisons of most major brands. When you look at them though, the overall spec differences seems to be small between brands or at least that's what I found for sub compacts. Perhaps the New Holland tool is intended to cut to the chase. agriculture.newholland.com/nar/en-us/about-us/buying-services/pre-sale/compare

Yeah, I WOULD advise the spreadsheet route when deciding on what kind of a tractor to get. However that being said, the purpose would be to build a list of say 10 tractors all spec'ed out in EXCEL. I then look at the budget and see the top 3 or 4 that meet the spec's AND the budget. Then you are correct from there. IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH actually taking a look at the actual unit itself. Even some videos can be slightly misleading. Not so much by the presenter in the video, but rather the manufacture itself. Case in point. I am 6'0" tall and I wear size 17 shoes. As a matter of safety I do not want to be scrunched in due to lack of leg room and have to pull my right leg back from UNDER the pedal, and over the pedal just to apply the brake as i cannot keep my legs awkwardly bent like that for hours so they only have room to relax UNDER the pedals. For me, that ended being a Kubota M6 141 before I had enough leg room with the seat ALL THE WAY UP AND BACK. However i get a few more inches of leg room from a tiny 68 hp LS 6168 where i do not need the seat all the way up but all the way back and i do not need to relax my leg and press my feet under the pedals. i can rest them just fine IN FRONT of the pedals. I ended up going to their next size up for better features and leg room as well as meeting my needs. That is just one of many reasons i would say like Niel here GET TO THE MACHINE ITSELF AND TRY IT OUT like he recommends. Trust me it is really worth your time. Also, do not get too hung up on any one spec. Start out with one or two sure, and branch out from there. When i started to look for tractors, as a Truck driver, i remember unloading pallets with a jack and they would be around 2,500 to 3,000 pounds. I live out in the country and if i ordered anything for the machine, i based the lowest weight i would need to be at 2,500 pounds so i could safely unload the item with my machine at my driveway. So, i shopped around with Deere, 10 k more than a Yanmar 359c in the same loader lift range. THAT WAS MY WAKE UP CALL So i was like "OK i really need to not get in a rush here buying my first tractor. In 2016 was settling on the Yanmar but when i found a 73hp Kioti with an extra remote and better lifting for 41k vs Yanmar 59 hp for 59k, I had another wake up call again and adjusted the numbers again and set a new target size tractor. All in all, IT REALLY benefits you to shop around to different brands as well as the specs. Along with the dealer parts room, shipping wait times for parts, warranty, etc. Some brands will void the warranty if you hire out your machine and others will not so pay attention to that in your warranty BEFORE YOU BUY!!

As always, I love your videos. Unlike the L6060 that list the implemet and steering pumps separately, as well as the total GPM of both pumps, I do not think Kubota is trying to mislead anyone about the the 16.7GPM pump of the M4. The information they left out is the steering pump and the total. I think the spec sheet ony list the implement pump, which like you said, is the only one that matters. The specifications section reads "Pump capacity ( 3-point hitch ) 16.7 GPM". In the M4 brochur, where they brag about the 16.7 GPM, it reads "The M4 offers a large pump capacity ( hitch and remote ) of 16.7 GPM". Although it did not take anything away from your well made point of be aware of what you are compairing, I think your did not notice the information in the parentheses. I would not even pretend to have your knowlege of these tractors like you, and if I am wrong, I apologize. It is interesting, however, the loader capacity is of the M4 is only listed at the bucket pivot pen. As far an I can tell, the L7060 is the same tractor (minus the nicer M5 cab), and it gives the capacity of the bucket center as well as the pivot pin. By the way, I just recieved your sway bar conversion kit for my BX2200. I thank you, and please keep doing these great vidieos.

@MessicksEquip 3 жыл бұрын
Yea, its an inconsistent mess with all companies. The 16.7 on the M4 is actually at the remotes. Its a feature that comes with the 12 speed transmission. To your point though, you never know who is telling you what when it comes to hydraulics since it not done consistently.

I think you did a video about loading/unloading and securing a tractor to a trailer, but I don't recall you doing a video about what size tow vehicle I should have to safely tow a trailer with a tractor/implements on it...for example a BX2680, loader, tiller, box blade, pallet forks....just to get it home from the dealership after purchase. I don't believe my 2008 Ford Explorer would be up to that task, seems like a lot of weight plus the trailer weight as well.
@MessicksEquip
@MessicksEquip 3 жыл бұрын
I have a Ford explorer also, mine tows 5,500 lb. You have about 3,000 lb of tractor there, a dual axle trailer with brakes in theory should be able to.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 3 жыл бұрын
@@MessicksEquip 3,000lbs in tractor and implements and another 2200lbs in trailer...supposedly my Explorer is rated for 7100lbs but don't think I'd want to try that LOL...I don't yet have the class 3 receiver hitch installed its in the plans, but honestly not quite sure it would be a good idea to tow that kind of weight behind an SUV like this.

On a Kubota BX tractor for example, I think John Deere 1 series as well have the ability to run the rear and mid-pto at the same time...so if you are doing so, does that cut down on the overall PTO Horsepower as a result? So instead of having 19.5PTO HP at the rear in just the rear PTO selection, would it cut your PTO HP in half by running both at the same time?
@MessicksEquip
@MessicksEquip 2 жыл бұрын
You can run both Pto on most small tractors. Turning on both will not somehow split the power.

Easier said than done. Many people buying tractors are clueless, have no experience, and if honest have no real need for a tractor. So they buy a tiny toy tractor with a hydrostatic transmission.

Kubota is so far behind in lift capacity, they don't even want to list the numbers anymore.

The numbers are listed right on the loaders. Kubota is actually one of the more upfront manufacturers by making their loader model numbers reflect the lift capacity.
