Thank you. When you were explaining how Helmut designed a parka, I thought that it is soo important to know the fashion history, the history of the clothes we wear. When we know this, the clothing stops being just a thing we put on. It has a history, so it has a meaning, you start wearing clothes in a conscious way. With a thought behind every item. Wow! I love that kind of analysis.

Entering my mid twenties and having worked a typical white collar corporate job for a couple of years has made me appreciate designers such as Raf Simons and Helmut Lang so much more. Thanks for uploading such top notch content.
@mayac.13454 жыл бұрын
I grew up when Helmut was becoming the buzz and moved to NYC. He belongs to the group of deconstructionist. Minimalist??? Yes and no. Purists??? Yes and no. But more than anything, his looks are always urban!!! Not minimalist but city dwelling folk looks. Hence his silhouettes tend to be not voluminous. Btw, minimalist and purists tend to intertwine. The difference is minimalist makes clothes, and style them in a very basic way. Purists designers tend to focus on fabric and toying around seams, darts, even volumes. Balenciaga is a purist and helmut Lang has purist tendencies too esp with garment constructions.

"there wasn't a lot going on" in 90s fashion ? british fashion in particular was being transformed in the 90s with designers like McQueen, good video for sure but to say that is definitely questionable, the 90s was when fashion was beginning to stray away from the stuffy and flash appearance it had in the 80s

@jeppemellbak38694 жыл бұрын
i think what he means was that in the late 80's/beginning of the 90s, a lot of stuff was couture but that the 90s was the era in which "streetwear" (i know that term wasn't used back then) and clothes that were usually not considered "fashion" started to become more artistic, and that helmut, along with people like margiela were poineers in that way. cmiw

Streetwear is a mix of many cultures. Current trend is mostly based on skate wear. No designer is the father of streetwear. Some took it to the runway and high fashion, but streetwear was already there.

Pardon me, your perspective is incorrect. Minimalism is more apt, but in context, Helmut Lang's style is not street fashion at all. As previous comment stated, it is urban, utilitarian and 'heightened' workwear. Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano were doing streetstyle, anti-couture/fashion a decade before (80s). Please do more reseach. Appreciate your effort put in, you get a C+. You need to go deeper.
