So do I need a dew shield for a newtonian? You did not say. Yes I am a newbe at this. Many thanks.

It's been many years since I've used a Newtonian telescope but it's probably a function of the length of the tube. If you have a shorter tube, you might still get a little condensation on the mirror. I had a Newtonian a million years ago and would occasionally run into that, but only when I was looking at targets near the zenith. I'd play with it for a while without the shield and see how it handles.
