RE: theft of pogies, I've started zip-tying mine. It's not perfect, but it'll prevent someone from quickly slipping them off.

Exactly! Anything can be stolen, but making it require extra effort can be deterrent enough.

I’m from 🇮🇳 and love watching your videos, we really don’t have a cycle culture in our country for going to work/office. Your videos show of what could be if we actually invested in such mode of transportation, hopefully one day

Thank you for watching! My wife spent a month in Pune last May. From what I saw of her photos, some people cycle, but it looks a bit difficult and dangerous. As usual, like everywhere, cars ruin everything.

Fell in love with pogies last year. I use the Pogie Lites from Bike Iowa. I live in Seattle and I don’t need the heavily insulated ones, just something to stay dry and block the wind.

Perfect timing. I took a ride yesterday and my gloves were not enough. Thought I might get frostbite. Thanks for sharing.

I've just seen the video of Bicycle Dutch in Carmel. Well done for making that happened. Wishing you to have more good cycling and pedestrian infrastructures in Indiana and all over the States. Greetings from Italy 💜

I lobe those bike pogies from Wobs. Have them for 3 years now and they keep me warm and dry no matter what, snow or rain. Sometime i even put a handwarmer inside if its extremely cold, but thats rarely necessary. 😊

Often wondered where I might find these. Thank you.
@benfurfie17157 ай бұрын
One thing to note with the WOBs on the Urban Arrow. You may need to move the bell down the handlebar to ensure that the wind can’t get in. If you tighten it when there bell normally sits, it’s right on the brake cables and that prevents a proper seal. It also makes it difficult to have a rear view mirror on the bike. Not impossible, but it’s certainly easier during spring, summer, and autumn when you don’t need the poggies. Great video Brandon!

Keeping it small business in the Midwest - Bike Iowa makes some lightweight pogies that are super packable and good (for me) down to the 20s (F) with a set of light Smartwool gloves. They are handmade in Iowa. I've had them for a couple years and have been so happy with them. I will see how Monday's -16 degrees F commute to work will work with them. I'll wear warmer gloves, of course, but the whole benefit of Pogies is that they provide little tents for your hands to keep the wind off. I only have a couple miles to ride to work, but I imagine I will wish I had one of these types of pogies by time I get there. 😆

I just installed some crappy pogies on my bike that have a heating element inside powered by a portable battery. I can now ride without any gloves at all, even though they're crappy and not even sealed right. To me this is proof that they're the real solution to winter riding. If even crappy ones work in freezing weather, then it's the right approach.

Pogies of any brand are likely a major enabler over gloves alone. It's unfortunate that more people don't know about them, but then again, that's a symptom of North American society regarding bikes as sport or fair weather recreation only.

Easy diy poggies are padded envelopes attached to the handlebars!

I watched another video the other day about how it’s too cold to cycle, but yet we can go skiing and snowboarding in much colder temperatures. 😂

A couple years ago I bought some "Townie / Dutch Style" bike poggies from Bar Mitts. They are made of neoprene and don't look quite as cosy as the ones in your video. They really help a lot with the cold, even made gloves unnecessary. But they are a bit of a hassle to put on/take off and the risk of them being stolen if I left them on the bike meant I was less likely to use them. Plus it doesn't really get that cold here in Christchurch, NZ. About -3 degrees Celsius (26F) is the lowest it gets and I find a cheap pair of wool gloves is ok for a short ride.

Fellow HSD owner here; this video is super helpful, and I appreciate the tip on the Weathergoods straight bar pogies! I saw pogies all the time when I interned in China during college and always wondered why they weren't as common here!

I’ve found with the hot hands product, it’s nice to just have a pack with me and even if I never need it, it’s a good feeling to know that I have them just in case.

Fietsmoffen or just moffen is the correct term in Dutch. Unfortunately the latter is mainly since WWII ( but in actuality since the 16th century) also a derogative for German people.

I’ve been looking at getting a set of pogies for a while, so this is very helpful. I currently use a pair of Pearl Izumi Lobster AmFIB mitts and they have been good. They’re so warm that I can’t put them on if it’s above freezing, my hands will sweat too much. I also use a pair of Showers Pass windproof gloves for cold, but not freezing weather.

Thanks for the video! I ride all winter and use a lot of my ski clothing (I am a backcountry skier so lots of crossover). I find goggles to be super helpful. For rhose needing some complementary content, Shifter is from Calgary (my home town) who shares great info on winter cycling clothing, bikes, and strategy on YT. Thanks again!!!

Gloves are frequently the wrong idea at any price, due to the cold space between the fingers, whereas cheap mittens are frequently the right idea.
@MrAyla7 ай бұрын
Was about to say the same thing. Get some single finger mittens. Keep your fingers together to keep them warm. Just common cold world knowledge. Not that handle bar mitts are a bad idea
@odess4sd4d7 ай бұрын
Agree. I think the reason pogies work is the same as mittens. They create a little windproof habitat for fingers. I have settled on some very loose fitting mitten shells that go over gloves. More flexibility to change with the weather that way too.
@Ernes4468 ай бұрын
Man I’ve spent so much money on gloves, even a heated motorcycle glove. Ended up purchasing a rockbros motorcycle handlebar mitten last week, waiting on Amazon delivery. I have a motorcycle thinking could work there too. The purpose built you’ve shown seems to be the solution if these fail. It is miserable without
