For those having a hard time reading the finger spelling, just turn on the closed captions option on the bottom right of the screen [cc]!

This video is awesome. I enjoy it with an interest in linguistics, and I learned from it as a hearing person learning ASL. Thanks so much.

One more comment: having made the journey as an L2 learner (still learning) helps when teaching students. The skiing analogy was GREAT

Thank you! I appreciate it... This is like reading professional journals, but in ASL :)

If I am not mistaken it is to use the understanding of proximalization and nonmanuals, to help with instruction of ASL students. When you have a better understanding of what they are doing mentally as a learner of an L2 then it helps in your teaching style to bridge the gap. Excellent video by the way. :)

Thanks for the explanatory of developmental & transfer errors including add, omit & both. I find that to be very important to recognize. Except I'm not sure about the U-shape, if I understand this correctly, it is about when a learner started to "reciting" or "copying" the language and sooner or later the learner was giving him/herself a pause when realized the modification was needed a bit of a change and then from there the learner is starting to developing into a more appropriate language.

Hi! Wow that was SO FUN!! I could sit and watch all day! As far as comments below...just go full screen then you can pick up FS...Super great research! I want to share this at our next Interpreter Peer Network meeting! Also, one thing I know I went through and still see signers do or get stuck in is over articulating signs. So it looks artificial compared to a native signer. Thanks so much for the brain food. Lovely lovely lovely

Agree, a few times you signed too high near face where it should be in neutral space such as GRAMMAR etc...

Looks like a very interesting video, but I had to stop watching half way through. The lighting problem makes it too difficult to see finger spelling etc.

The fingerspelling on the face is a bad idea... You have a black background....Use it. Just saying.
