Eggsaladent video! So the question I have is, if your scene is something like a dark prison cell, with only one real motivated light, the look of the scene should be harsh given the setting. Even in that situation, I would diffuse the main source of light, but on the dark side, I could have it fall off into total darkness as it fits the scene, but for options in color grading later on, should I bounce a bit of light back into the dark side just to have the ability to set the desired darkness in post ?

This is almost embarrassing to watch. Light has four major characteristics. Hard, Soft, Specular, Diffused. How it falls off has nothing to do with its character but with the inverse square law. You have a habit of calling it refracted, but in each example, it is not refracted at all. The characteristics of light are determined by the size of the light source in relationship to its subject and how close it is to its subject. When you say you use soft light on yourself, you aren't, you're using diffused light. Your example of hard light is only because of its size versus the subject; if you tripled its size, it would be soft. If you then move its distance to be further away, it becomes harder again. If you pass it through a material that scatters it or reflects it off material, it's diffused; if you change the light head to a silver dish, it's spectacular. I appreciate you make content to be helpful, but almost all your info is fundamentally wrong in this video.

Dude, soft boxes and bounces do not refract light, refraction is when you bend light rays. Diffusions diffuse light, bounces bounce light. Fresnels refract light, they bend the light beam to focus it using its lens.

Digging the KZbin plaque behind you. Also, what container did you export in? I noticed the artifacts at 6:39 and 8:08 and I saw in Resolve if I export MP4, my videos also do this.

Well I think that frame when your lights goes off, for a second I felt this way of lights can make us listen to you more as you was the only one who was lit when it turned off, more focus on you👌🏻hahaha. Above all, people think they need to use different light for hard light and different lights for soft light, they don’t know it’s not the lights it’s how you diffuse and what you use to diffuse. After watching they will stops searching for soft key lights on Amazon 😬👌🏻

Great as always my friend 👏 I recently tried to recreate your bathroom sequence for my small planned action trailer with my fx6. However, we only had 2 smaller rgb lights in use. If it's ok for you, I'll make a little KZbin video and also a scene from your video with fade in can I do that? In the end we have unfortunately tiled the bathtub 🥴 but we had definitely fun at filming this scene 😂 best cinematic greetings from germany
