It's name is "Aptera" made by Aptera. Sol is the name of a particular vehicle and it's color scheme. Aptera claims 40 miles of charging a day with a full solar package and in a fairly sunny climate. The Aptera solar panels can charge while the vehicle is in motion and/or whenever exposed to the sun, except while DC fast charging The Aptera has a top speed of 110 mph. Thanks for your video.

Using solar panels as a roof for parking spots makes way more sense. The area for panels is much bigger than on a car and there's no additional mass. Additionally, the car is protected from bad weather conditions.

I am banking on Aptera…. But! I am retired, single, love to travel. I have ruffle estimated based on optimum solar charging, in my location I will have to charge every month averaging throughout the year. During the rainy seasons and winter possibly every other week. I am also taking into consideration weight, roads and the terrain i’ll be driving all day today. Traveling will be easier to estimate by region, because the weight I’m caring will be stable. These are things we have to adjust to when we drive. I am a custom to it due to the fact that I used to drive over the road. My weight would affect how much fuel I used.

Thanks for making a wonderful video on the science and status of solar electric vehicles. I think people should invest more and more in solar electric cars. There should be mass production of solar EVs so that it solves the energy crisis and climate crisis. With mass production and due to economies of scale the price of solar EVs can drastically reduce, making it affordable for the common man worldwide. I think people should compromise in buying a solar EV for the the hind window or dickey window becomming opaque. At least I am ready to compromise it. It's high time and urgent to solve the energy and climate crisis. It apparently or definately seems to be sustainable solution. I request you to upload more and more relevant videos.

As solar technology gets more efficient, the solar powered cars will get even better and beat the current day typical electric cars.

I don't know of any commercially available PV panel that's more than 23% efficient. Where did you get the 35% upper limit! Post a link plz? Ideal material would absorb all of the electromagnetic spectrum and release electrons. It would be as black as black can get and colder than ambient! It would also make EM super shields for space craft. Maybe in a few hundred years when I am dust. Our science of metallurgy and material science is still at its infancy.

Cutting edge solar cells are at 47% efficient, but they are 5 layer cells capturing different frequencies. Something like $60,000 for a 100W panel, not something that makes sense for other than space use.

@@Tore_Lund . Could ultra efficient solar panels make there way onto Vehicles. Do U have any idea on how long it might be " decades or years " until that might be possible.

If a 10 kW vertical wind turbine is installed in place of the engine, the problem of range loss will be permanently removed. Wind turbine gives three phase 24 volt power. It may sound a bit loud, but it will prove to be a more sustainable solution than solar cells.

Exactly my thoughts! Only solar won’t work. Since the vehicle is already moving, it would be wiser to include wind energy too 😊

currently we are using lithium ion battery, which has the highest power per weight ratio. this battery relies on 2 rarer metal which is one reason why battery is not cheap.

Arent cars responsible just for a few % of CO2 emitted into atmosphere? Im always curious why we wont make a cut where it matters the most, heavy industry, city heating/cooling, energy production and suprisingly meat production.

Roughly road transport is 30% of CO2 emissions globally, the other thirds are industry and heating. Food production has a significant contribution around 4.5 tons per year per person, mainly from animal production.

I think we can add wind turbines in front of the car inside the front part and simultaneously solar roofing throughout the car can give additional power so it will be unlimited free energy
@matthewstephen8841
@matthewstephen8841 9 ай бұрын
Good idea but it doesnt really work that way as the air turning the wind turbine would cause more drag on the car slowing it down and the electricity generation wouldnt be enough to be more than the decrease caused by the drag

These little cars with top speeds of less than 28mph are not practical on North American roads and will annoy drivers on the road after the novelty period wears out. Unless you only drive in urban housing roads where you don't have to keep up with traffic going 40mph+. Also, they are not allowed on North American public roads and can not be registered and plated. You have to ride it around on your private property. They are considered glorified golf cars. Maybe they can sell a bunch to Trump with White House logo plastered everywhere, to close the deal? Better yet, call it "Trump mobile" and MAGA will buy it in droves, and change the laws so these become legal to drive on the roads here. 😉

Micro neighbourhood EVs are allowed on the road in some European countries. some are limited to 28 mph as you say, but others are registered as motorcycles and can go as fast as traffic.
