I enjoyed the video and may have to watch it a couple of times with a notepad. Also - waiting for some guy in the comment section to say “useless video - they didn’t even play music with the capacitors… won’t buy it unless I can hear it through my iPhone.”

It is still a long way before these capacitors are in action playing music. These capacitors are in a long term project. 1 to 2 years.

Look at all those super caps...the joules are magnificent and create torque I'm sure for a more dense audiophile sound, You are the best Angela Gilbert Yeung

I've been experimenting with capacitors in serial but mostly for small applications like speaker crossovers and similar specially for Non pollar applications but I didn't pay attention to increase the voltage in other applications...also I knew how to increase the capacitance in parallel but the voltage remains the same...so very instructive video.

Hi there, Angela. Firstly, fantastic video. I hope people realize the amount of current / energy super caps can hold even though they’re low voltage. Can you explain how much capacitance is too much? I’m building a tube based phono pre, and the transformer’s primary is 115v, where the secondary is 280v. The PSU is a CLC rather than CRC, and I’m using a solid state rectifier instead of tube, if that matters. If this is a situation where you’d need to see a schematic, I understand. Thanks very much in advance. I absolutely love your work and designs plus your outside the box thinking.

As of today, I haven't find the limit of capacitance being too much. However, there are a lot of other factors which affect the benefit of adding capacitor. In another word, not all capacitor react the same. The rule of thumb is if adding capacitance continue to improve sound quality, go farther. If it doesn't, stop. The only thing is the make sure the rectifier can handle the inrush current.

@@angela-gilbertWow! Thank you, Angela for getting back to me so quickly. That was exactly the information I was looking for. I may mess around a bit with thermistors to limit the chance of damaging the rectifier with inrush current. Thanks again! I appreciate it very much! 🔊😊🎶💜

Are these expensive? What is the price per piece?

They are around $75 to $80 each depending on how many you are buying.

Hi. Can you please share where you purchased those supercapacitors?

They were either from Digikey, Mouser or Electro-Sonic. I can't remember which one without going back to check my purchase record. However, I buy all my capacitors from either of them.

And this people is why Augio gear costs money. The Research and development to make sure the component will sound right, be save and last a long time. I am an electronic tech, and deal with this stuff on a daily basis.
