I like your "avaition school". You are a good instructor and your use of actual devices in your instructions is good. It would be good to show the mechanism and psychometrics of carburetor icing.

That’s a great suggestion! I’m gonna start putting together a video on it during our school break this winter!

I would like to offer a piece of constructive criticism about checking the magnetos. At 3:15 in your video you said, and actually did, check the left magneto, then back to both, then checked the right magneto, and finally turned the key back to the both position. That can be disastrous. If for some reason a pilot does the magneto check in this sequence, there is the possibility of the pilot becoming distracted and accidentally only turning the key one click from the right position resulting in the key being placed inadvertently on the LEFT position. If for some reason the key is placed in the LEFT position and that magneto fails you will have lost ALL spark to the spark plugs because the RIGHT magneto is not providing any spark to the spark plugs (because it is already OFF)! I have been a flight instructor since 1979 and was taught, and I teach my students, to always check the RIGHT position first, and then the LEFT position. Doing it in that order the key will always be turned to the BOTH position and if one magneto fails (makes no difference which one) the other magneto will still be functional.

I understand where you are coming from but from a commercial pilot perspective I want to make sure the mag is coming back online promptly as well. Going L to R and then Both doesn’t let you check that on the individual mags. It is true this might take a little more attention on the pilot’s part but if they are moving so fast they miss turning the mags on “Both” they are moving too fast….
This kills pilots every year….
