It's not just the length of the panel that makes a dressage saddle, it's the straightness. GP or jumping saddles have forward cut panels and bigger knee rolls. And the height of the arch has nothing to do with how the horse's back 'comes up'. The talk about the length and height of the tree is inaccurate.

Please help with a bit an information, just interested in leather knowledge. Can someone tell me what padding was traditionally used in the making of English saddles. Everything out in the making of English saddles they all use foam padding when making saddles today. What was used before foam? Thank you ahead of reply.

Good evening, I just watched this KZbin video this evening and enjoyed it very much. I am in my 50’s and going to start lessons. I’ve only done many trail rides over the years. Just a quick question, I’m getting my first horse in a few months and I’m looking for a saddle that doesnt cost an arm and a leg and I’m battling to find a good quality saddle that I won’t have to spend 1000s of dollars on repairing it in the future. Have you thought about getting a synthetic? Thorowgood are affordable and fit well. Ignore the Indian and Chinese ones.

It depends on how much your aiming towards, if around 500-700 then probably wintec saddles, like the 500 and 250 (types, not prices) And if your aiming towards 300- 500 Henry de rival is an amazing choice, most expensive saddles are for more expert riders in disciplines like dressage, eventing, and show jumping.
