Amnesty as a whole and local need to give serious attention to the situation in their respective countries. Amnesty's focus is mainly on victims of injustice in counties far away. The consequence is numbness or blindness of the injustice that's going on in your own backyard. I've witnessed it first hand when trying to get Amnesty to wake up on the improper use of power and authority by agencies and public bodies, in what is perceived as a highly developed, Western democracy. All I got was word salad. While we continue ignoring the red flags our democracies are crumbling.

What’s ridiculous video. Who gets to define what is ‘hateful’? Why the transference of acceptable discourse, from the realm of the objective (yelling fire in a theatre), to the impossibly subjective (what someone feels in their heart towards a person). You have no right to interfere with someone’s perspective, simply because YOU deem it hateful. You are not the arbiter of what that means, and hate is not the worst affection imaginable.

@amnesty International What does it mean when they say "people with hateful views with no incitement of violence not entitled to a large audience?" is this lack of entitlement from the majority public's beliefs (eg. most don't agree with it and it doesn't attract large crowd) or does it come from governments restricting the speaker's voice as damage control (they don't like what they are hearing and thus attempt to deplatform the speaker so it doesn't reach a larger audience). Please explain.

The whole point of free speech is to protect unpopular speech. If you do not have that in your country you do not have "free speech", you have "restricted speech". There is hardly anything more Orwellian than referring to "restricted speech" as "free speech".

You see, you put any limit in freedom of expression and is no more freedom, is licensing to expression. Instead of trying to define what is or is not hate speech how about distinguish between speech and harassment?

You say in your first comment that amnesty are great because they “don’t take sides” - but when it’s pointed out that they flagrantly support the side of the left, you don’t deny it, but instead basically say ‘yeah but the right are horrible’. Do you not see how you’ve just contradicted yourself? Either admit that amnesty do take sides, and that’s wrong regardless of which side they take - or just admit that you’re flagrantly partisan, and you’re happy for them to take a side, as long as it’s one YOU approve of.
