I've had chickens. I also had a cockerel, do you? I read that the hens "pay" the cock, keep him with them, with sex. They did! They would allow him sex, then eject his sperm. Fasinating. He would call them if he found some grain, then back off so they ate it, he took what they left. Also watched a hen catch, kill and eat a mouse!!

Just watched "Confusing dogs with work and play" and totally agree there when it comes to dogs. When it comes to humans you might want to see it differently especially when you want people to have barbecue and so on again. I did not grow up in capitalism, work and fun was one, most best friends were work colleagues and some work colleagues are still in contact today after more than 35 years.

15:00 If I would do it like that I totally agree that it would be wrong but no that is not what I mean. I would never correct a dog for just looking at something. I want them to look at everything, I spent hours with them looking at wildlife. Have you never seen how a dog changes when they go into prey drive? That is not looking. They even can do that with other dogs, some breeds move like prey when the energy is up and the other dogs start to play with them and then suddenly the prey drive kicks in. You can see that and if you let them go on the little dog is just dead, there is nothing to wait for. Same with the dogs who see children as prey. I have yet to meet a family with little children and a dog where the dog gets his needs fullfilled and isn't frustrated. Still the dogs do not kill the children, they might correct the children yes but they do not see them as prey. But then there are these other ones, you can see it way way before it happens, it is written on the dogs face, prey drive kicked in. As you say dogs are simple and it is no guess what is going to happen. For you it might be ok to lose a chicken, for other people it is absolutely not. And as I said as pack animals they know what it means when a leader says no, we do not hunt that one. No damage done.

I understand what you are talking about from previous comments. You are referring to the rare dog over the majority dogs out there. Prey drive is not only a dog willing to go for a kill it’s an arousal and most people are so afraid the dog is wanting to kill and that makes them so scared of what could be. It’s rare of a dog wanting to kill something other than a mouse or rat type vermin, they are mostly wanting to move other animals around. People get so scared there dog is wanting to kill they are correcting in all the wrong times and making things worse. And worse off giving treats to stop something that one has no idea of what is going on with the dog. Most people see lunging dog and think it wants to do harm but that’s not always the case. I greatly appreciate you saying what you have. As much as it’s nice to see how people agree I like the disagreements so I can talk over how I see things to get a conversation going. It’s much needed to learn more. You really got me thinking a lot and always trying to learn how to communicate better to help more people out. Something that’s messing lots of people up is the word dog trainers use “aggression” makes people feel scared of there dog and making them correct a dog for doing nothing at all and keeping people in fear. I put the dog on a harness and let them chase with me behind at the chicken and once I see the dog open its mouth I say no. That’s not most dogs. Most dogs get to the chicken with mouth closed and want to smell it or just chase and move it. Once I say no to the dog of course after I have built a relationship of respect with the dog they stop chasing the chicken and the energy starts to go down. I can then start to get them off the chicken much easier and they don’t go so hard and don’t try to bite them anymore if they do open
