New to banjo, not musically talented at all, and I’m old……. I have practiced slides the past few days and can do them ok, but there is a pronounced change in the tone as my finger moves over the fret(s). Is that normal? I don’t seem to notice it as much when I listen to others play, like yourself, on KZbin. That could be the way it sounds on KZbin, but mine seems very pronounced. I also need to work a lot on my left hand as no matter what finger I use one what string, I interfere with the string next to it……. It’s only been one week, so I know, practice, practice, practice …….

It’s hard to say without seeing/hearing you play. You could be bending the string during the slide which is changing the pitch. Or it could be a setup issue with your banjo. If you’re only a week in I’d just keep practicing it’ll likely work itself out as you progress. Keep picking. - Mike
