IMHO A4 could be useful, because d4 kicks away the C3 knight and then Bb5 is an annoying idea, especially with combination of Nf5 when Queen doesn't have many squares.

These lessons are gold! The emphasis on the pawns part in the development makes me relize that the pawns are actually some of the most important material in many ways. When we learn the game we just think of pawns as least valuable but they decide the freedom of other pieces like bishops.

Great insights, have you thought of touching base with You tuber Hanging Pawns, you can both gain viewers from each other and you can help him, he is FIDE 2000 but watching his training games some of his thought processes are baffling

I think that a4 was just a profilactic move against possible Bb5 and winning exchange in some variation, after black's d4 and Nc3 would have to move away from protecting b5

Do we really call it grand prix structure? I mean yes, it's started as sicilian with white playing f4 and knight c3, but instead of white trying to play for mate on h7 or something like that, leading ther queen to king side, their knight, attack with f pawn etc, this feels more like weird french or something like this, isn't it?

Yes. It did turn into some weird stuff.

As a French player: If I'm allowed to play c5 twice in a game, I feel like a kid on Christmas :D

Now imagine how happy a Sicilian player is to do the same

@@HighlyCruciferous I actually do play both and gotta say, I would be much happier in about it in the French, since it's the most important pawn break in the position. If you couldn't play c5 in the French, you would simply be losing. If you can play it twice, you usually already have a winning position from my experience. I guess you could compare it to the d5 break in a lot of sicilian structures. If you can play it once successfully, you are usually doing pretty good. If you could play it twice, you are probably already winning :) Sorry for being a killjoy. Just want to spread my bits of random chess knowledge XD. But I get it, that someone who plays a lot of sicilian's would feel good about it, and so you should! Have a nice day :D

A4 allows you to move your knight and not have to worry about Bb5 I agree that the student's explanation made no sense.
