I'm really grateful to you for talking about four of the words I asked, Christine. It's meaningful, and I liked your explanations a lot.

Thank you so much for this video. I am looking into this due to a disagreement about a question that was proposed to be included in an exam where I teach. The question asks the student to identify the word that does not contain a schwa (unstressed schwa) and the correct answer choice is supposed to be "funny" because the first syllable is stressed. My argument against using this as the correct answer choice is that the two sounds are too similar for our students to distinguish and the stressed versus unstressed forms of schwa haven't been explained clearly to the students in the curriculum. How would you handle this question style for beginner students who have only been given a cursory explanation of unstressed schwa? The curriculum makes no reference to stressed schwa nor to its phonetic representation in IPA.

I agree with you - I'd either use a different answer choice, or teach them about clear and reduced sounds. Stressed and unstressed schwa are basically the same sound, just different in duration, so that question is very tricky for even a non-beginner.
