You summed up BONELAB really well! A lot of my friends just gave up on it since they thought SLZ abandoned its SDK when in reality their probably working their asses of to make it the best moddable VR game they can. It's such a damn shame the marketing for the game was terrible because if it was marketed more like the "Gmod of VR" that happens to have a short mini-campaign inside of it, it would have been better received. Keep up the great videos, mini!

@@SnrubSource I trust that SLZ knew it needed time in the oven, which is why they are updating it for 2 years. It's incredibly likely that meta gave them a really early release date and forced everyone into crunch mode. Which could also explain a lot of the bugs and such on launch.

Oh god I remember playing the game on launch and getting stuck on pillar climb and spending 2 hours on the moon base, levels were downsized for quest and the layout of some maps are just.. very questionable, even to this day with the new patches.

Honestly I was surprised to find out that people hated pillar climb until after I played, I guess my game glitched and didn't swap my avatar as often, or I was running at 2 frames I don't remember.

I love this game to no end, it probably being my favourite game of all time currently, and i have already made so many memories which have had me literally crying into my VR Headset with laughter, I do wish it had an amazing story, final boss and all the music to actually be used, but like you have said. that's not what it is. that's not what it was ever meant to be.

This was a great video I remember when i heard a slz game coming to quest i instantly bought boneworks on a cloud pc and played it i loved it and my hype for bonelab raised higher and higher And when it released i went mentally insane for most of the levels especially pillar climb but i still had a great time with the game and the mods i still enjoyed it

bonelab was my first time playing any of the stress level games, and i didnt even know how to open the capsules. i think i got all the way to ascent before realizing i could open them lol

I was definitely going into this game with the thought process that it being 40 dollars (10 more than boneworks) that it'd have a better story and campaign, only to learn that the avatar levels made up half of the missions and were all 3-4 minutes long. I was not going into it for the mod support at all and after finishing the game in 4 hours I was really pissed off, i got in the cab and was SURE that there was more to it after being dropped off at the menu thingy. Hope its worth checking out after the full sdk is out.

I feel like bonelab was a "necessary evil" for stress level zero to kinda experiment and figure out what they are doing. So, for the next game, they can do what they really want and go all out.

I think I had a better time than most with the campaign mainly because I bought the game around about November(after the first and only update) but some of the problems you pointed out still happened to me. The one that most sort of connected me with your experience was the moon level. I didn’t read that map and climbed the building in the top left of the map and was so confused. I also had no idea what to do until a KZbin video told me what to do for the level where you get all the glowing ball things to unlock the quarantine area

Still, day one had a very mysterious feeling to it. The drawn doors below the hub? No meaning. Just there. Mine dive and the weird ass keycard doors? No explanation. The search for the skeleton npc and avatar?? NO WHERE to be found, and despite how shit some of the campaign levels were, it was still fun looking into every single corner for the gacha balls and perhaps even finding a new secret.

my thoughts exactly, some of the ways that the trailer was edited are really misleading, especially parts like the two long tunnel drop segments being edited to look like one, and ALL of descent being in the first trailer. not to even mention that there is little cuts from levels like ninja warrior that look identical to descent. Side note, on my first playthough I got STUCK on street puncher because i never knew about pulling the gatchas. I had to replay street puncher three times before i even HAD the idea to pull it apart.

This is a great video. As myself when i got bonelab i was hype cus I didn’t play boneworks even though I have a pc but i think this game was over hyped. It is still a nice game but no game is perfect. I will say what really made it bad for me was story.

i got the game on pc a couple months after launch so i could wait for those issues to be fixed up, im glad i did and the game is in my top 5 vr games. i think people focus too much on the campaign and not the wider game its self, the game was basically built for modding so, just mod!

I have never played boneworks but i watched the full gameplay, and the only physics game i played was sport mode, but i still really enjoyed bonelab at launch and had no problems with it. What's funny about this whole thing is that for the first time the quest community was more friendly to the game than the pcvr community

I imagine it's a very different experience experiecining the physics system and atmosphere for the first time in Bonelab if you've never played Boneworks before. For a lot of people, it felt like a downgrade especially at a higher price- not the physics itself, but Boneworks has a much longer campaign
