I've certainly learned my lesson splitting nasty crotch wood in a old oak with the grain going 98 different ways .... chainsaw time! I did some work with a sawmill that could curve saw with the shape of the log; you'd get the craziest banana shaped green boards but when they put weight on them in a unit of lumber & kiln dried it, they'd come out flat because of the sawing with the grain.
