You know, there was a big wolf spider in my office. I was about to splat it against the wall, but I stopped and asked myself: “What did this one do to me?” So I left him/her/it. The next morning, there was a handful of bugs caught in the web. That spider kept getting all of the bugs I couldn’t, so I left that corner of my office to the spider. Sadly, it died about 3 weeks later. RIP Spider Dan, you will be missed.

There was a spider that lived *IN* the sink of my kitchen. I don't know why or how it survived but it did and I respected that so I let them live there. Later on I was happy to see that my little friend had children. I never met the dad. The kids grew up and had more children. I started to get worried but then ants. Lots of them. I used to love ants when I was a small kid and cry over people killing them. Not anymore. A whole army of them started invading my house. They were drilling a bunch of wholes and tunnels in a wall of my bedroom and were also attacking the kitchen. I can't even sleep in peace because of them constantly climbing up my bed and biting me. Now there is an ongoing war in my home. I also have this gecko roomie that doesn't anything but it's children sure does! I believe this song is perfect for this chaos. I also really wish to form an alliance with the spiders and geckos, they never really disturbed me, they just lived in the corners. So that means there are technically 4 factions in this war: Spiders, Geckos, Ants and me. The battle royale of the century, the winner gets to keep the house! *UPDATE:* 2024 2th January The ants stopped attacking the walls of my room around Christmas, I thought it meant it was over but I was so wrong. The Christmas truce ended as suddenly as it began, now with a new change of strategy. I have a ceiling fan in my room and the hole where the fan was put in became the new target of the ants, now they fall from the fan to directly over my bed. I put ant poison in the fan to fight back, I hope they leave already. *UPDATE:* 2024 4th January They haven't stopped yet. I put even more poison, some spiders have passed away but hopefully the newer generations will be able to handle the situation. The ants have kicked me out of my bedroom too and I have to sleep on the couch now. It's not so bad but it's very annoying. *UPDATE* 2024 16th February I kinda forgot about this comment, just remembered it today so, yeah, update. A couple days after the last update I managed to get back to my room through even more poison. I believe now that there must be one or two gecko corpses in my bedroom, haven't seen my roomie in a while and the amount of small geckos has reduced. I doubt the war had to do with it as my old gecko roomie could perfectly just died of old age and the little geckos are a lot more clumsy than what you would expect but a part of me is worried that they might have eaten a few poisoned ants and died because of it. I really hope that isn't the case. The destruction of the bedroom wall has stopped but every now and then scout ants jump from the fan, still not enough to be a threat. The kitchen doesn't have as good news, the ants are still there, and worse, they've learn how to hide more properly. Yesterday I opened a box of little fruit cookies and, would you know it? It was filled to the brind with them. I don't know where they came from. Before I could at least follow the trail but I can't find said trail now. I believe they must be hiding behind the fridge, I can't reach down there to put the poison and moving the whole fridge will be very hard considering how many boxes there are pulled over it. I could do it but... Yeah, I'm lazy. On the other hand, the spiders are thriving and their numbers don't do anything but increase. That's gonna absolutely cause a big catastrophe later on. I just hope the gecko population goes back to normal soon so they can keep the spiders in check. *UPDATE* 2024 7th November It's been months since The Great Anthropod War started and I haven't written any updates in a while. Of course, today that's changing. Before getting to the curent situation, I will list the couple important events for each faction that have happened between the last update and the present time. Geckos: Maybe a month after the last update, I woke up to see a pair of geckos hanging out in a corner in the stairs. They both were pretty young and was a clear sign of the gecko situation getting better. The new generation was a welcomed surprise and I'm happy to say their numbers have stabelized ever since. Spiders: The spiders started getting out of hand and I was forced to evict a couple families from their webs. As much as it hurts me to kick out the decendants of The Legendary Sink Spider, I can't let them sneakly invade my territory like they've been doing. I know The Legendary Sink Spider would understand. They've been mainly restrained back to a corner in the kitchen, I like to check on them everyday and see what they're up to. Recently, I found an interesting situation: Three spiders were hanging out in a web. I had seen the oldest one have kids not long ago and was certain the youngest of the trio had to be her child, their relationship with the middle one is uncertain but if they let her stay in that web for so long, I can only assume they must be family. As the youngest tried to figure out how to make a structure that could sustain it, the other two entered a fight. The middle spider (who I have named Alex) approached the oldest (who I have named Rose) and they stared at eachother for a while. Suddenly, Alex ran up to Rose and aggresively scratched her abdomen. Needless to say, Rose didn't take it very well. The oldest pushed Alex back to the border of the web. I expected her to kick Alex out of it but instead, Rose walked back to her usual spot and awaited for Alex's move. The process repeated a couple times before Ale was forced to give up and sat on the other extreme of the web. The youngest one (who I belive was the only winner that day), presumably unaware of the fight, succesfully made a very, very small web. Congratulations, little one. Ants: If there's something I've learned is that ants are stubborn. Poison doesn't scare them and despite the usage of it giving me maybe a month of peace, they'd come back right after. I realised the only thing that could stop their invasion was divine intervension, and that's exactly what I recieved. Finally, we got to that time of the year where rain is the usual weather and the sun is a myth. With the strong storms, the ant camps must have been flooded as their numbers greatly decreased. Animals tend to hide when storms come by, but the ant population hasn't recovered yet, so I'm certain some catastrophy must have struck them during the event. The main ant focus is in the backyard now, not in the groud, but inside a wall. Last time I checked, they were carrying a baby gecko's corpse inside. It was a disturbing sight but I doubt it was assasination. They were probably trying to make the best out of a tragedy. That gecko may not have a long life, but thanks to them, many ants will do. After everything, it seems we've finally achieved peace. If us all can live in harmony, perhaps it was a war without reason. That concludes this update. I'll try to remember to come back to this comment and give another one if anything else happens. Thank you for reading. *UPDATE* 2024 November 22th THEY'RE BACK AT IT!! There's a broken old air conditioner in my house, it was left by whoever inhabited before me, and I belive it has become the home for new ants. I was eting breakfast when I saw the trail trying to take two bits of cereal that had fallen to the floor. By the air conditioner, I saw a strange brownish circle that I swear wasn't there the day before. To my surprise, it wasn't some weird stain, and to my horror, it was alive. A huge congregation of of ants with a radious of about 3 inches had concentrated in there and I still have no clue why. The next day, they were gone. At the moment, I had just taken note of it to deal with it later because I was really busy but later that day I finished dinner with an arm addorned with the ant bites. Screw the peace treaty, I'm getting the poison. "War without reason", what was I thinking?! *UPDATE* 2024 November 22th Yes, two updates in a singular day, crazy, right? A couple hours after I wrote the last one, I saw a line of ants coming from a hole I didn't know I had in the wall and straight into the air conditioner. What surprised me the most is that appearently these ants have taken prisoners? I could see a couple bigger insects coming through the hole, walking forward in the same direction surrounded by the ants. Under closer inspection, I found a small spider web. Although it didn't belong to one of the sink spiders, instead to another spicies that I've known my whole life for being tame and everything but aggresive. Our little spider friend here has caught some of the ants and left them in perfect position to be analysed more closely. I only then realised that the ants involved in this new trail are not one singular species but three. One of which is the one that was involved in the past war. The two new ones are completely different, one of them being the "bigger insects" that were mentioned earlier. I know them "taking prisoners" is probably unlikely but it was the first thing that came to my head. I can't truly know if I am seeing an alliance, a war or just a strange coincidence. Two of the three ant species involved seem to have sent rescue squads to the web area and are taking some of the trapped ants away. All while trying to keep a safe distance from the spider, who seems to have no issue with their presence. Well, at least that's how I interpreted the situation. I know ants have cementeries where they lay their fallen to rest. They don't leave any of their kind behind, not even after their passing. Intead, they take them to that place. Because of this, I wouldn't be surprised if they also had the desire to issue rescue missions. I need to investigate more. Who would have thought these ants I call enemies could be so interesting at times? We have almost reached the character limit for youtube comments, so this will continue in the replies.
