Everyone, this is the last I'll be discussing this. You can link to this video if needed. I don't want this stuff to poison my work, I don't want to obsess and be referencing drama in every video. So, this is it. And going forward I'm remaining focused on what I love doing here. Tune in Thursday for a big video on classic resident evil!

The bad thing about your Elden Ring stream was the constant complaints in a game you already knew you don't like, that makes a very uncomfortable time for the viewers watching you. It's like you invited all your friends to your house to watch a movie you don't like and you can't shut up about how bad it is for you, so boring.

That is.. exactly what the point of the stream was. He said that in the video. Is it on him for announcing the stream through the Community post and drawing more people "not in on the joke" to it? Yes, and that's fair criticism to say that was a bad move. But complaining about the stream itself when it's exactly what his viewers who donated for it wanted to see is not, because they got what they paid for. Everyone else is free to leave.

My question about your ultrakill criticism is why would a new player rely on the pistol? I think most new players would use a different weapon the second they pick it up because it's something different. A lot of games do this when you unlock new tools and abilities. Most players will try to use that to see what it does out of curiosity. Why argue so hard about that, when players try new things all the time when the new thing is available to them? Especially because anyone would get bored of just using the pistol, even though they have a shotgun too. Edit: I feel like this comment got out of hand, and started arguments, which wasn’t the intention. I understand the point more now, so I got what I wanted. Even though I still disagree with it to an extent.

@@deliriumthewaifu7030 everything else I can understand. The joke charity, the drunk elden ring stream that got out of hand, even the fact that some people don’t like criticism of their favorite games. I don’t want to just brush off and call him a game journalist for those reasons. Especially since I think this response is alright. My problem that I wished to ask him is this insistence that new players won’t want to experiment on weapons naturally, or why they wouldn’t look up KZbin videos to learn more tech just like in doom. Also, when he opened his video by calling out ultrakill fans, he basically made an enemy out of them by making fun of them. I can forgive bad jokes, we all do them. I just think it was a bad call to enter it like that. Especially since doom fans (or fans of anything) are exactly the same. Ultrakill isn’t much different. He seems to think otherwise. Those are my issues. I guess I won’t be getting an answer, which is fine, I don’t expect one since he wants to move on. It’s understandable. I just don’t get why he insists on dying on that hill.

mayo never said "this game sucks because everyone overuses the pistol." he said "the pistol shouldn't be able to be relied on at the start of the game, because it might stunt the player's ability to learn later." that's it. it's a simple criticism but ultrakill fans seem to be so far up their own ass that any form of criticism on their game sends them into a blind, frothing rage. no offense
@TuShan18
@TuShan18 Жыл бұрын
@@glue-eater300 none taken I guess, but when given the shotgun, why would players keep wanting to use the pistol alone? You get another weapon very quickly. Why would they overly rely on the pistol when acquiring both weapons does different purposes? The pistol is longer ranged and has a slightly faster fire rate, and the coin toss once unlocked makes it easy to hit weak points without needing to aim at the enemy. The shotgun deals more damage consistently, and causes more of a blood splatter, so it’s easier to use that when you’re low on health. Something that can happen often since projectiles are so fast. Explosive shots also make it easier to deal with groups. A new player might quickly figure out how these guns have their uses, and switch them out depending on the situation that they think they need them in. I guess I’m frothing at the mouth by being confused where this idea came from that new players don’t want to play around with new stuff for the sake of it being new and possibly interesting. If they do find it interesting, a play style starts to develop from there. Especially when they figure out the tech. But I guess I offended somehow. Please excuse my incredible rage inducing question, hoping to better understand something that I was confused about.

I checked your Ultra Kill review and I kinda sympathize with you to an extent. Before playing Sekiro I always wondered how people found the fun in character action games. If just spamming the basic attacks in the game is enough, what's the point? Then I got good at Sekiro. Good enough to beat the bosses without dying. Then I thought to myself. Can I push this further? Instead of just being reactive, can I be the one to push the pace? Then I started experimenting more with the game's mechanics. Finding more ways to get hits in, running after bosses instead waiting for them to attack me, using different prosthetics to help build posture and keep the pressure on. I remember fighting Lady Butterfly. Having her absolutely terrified and pinned in the corner. Unable to even get one of her illusions out. Complete domination. I was the boss and I felt like a god!!! Then I understood the appeal of character action games. Video games aren't just about solving the problem the developer put in front of you. Can you master it? How far can you push this game mechanically? You have to be an intrinsically motivated player though. And I don't think you are.
@GangsterFrankensteinComputer
@GangsterFrankensteinComputer Жыл бұрын
To progress in Sekiro you have to get good, in Ultrakill you can dominate without having to engage with the game's mechanics. You don't die, there's nothing forcing you to master a technique to progress, you just finish the level with a B rank and go onto the next one lol.
@SolonGaming
@SolonGaming Жыл бұрын
That's not how all character actions games are. Some make sure to lead you through their mechanics properly so when you start experimenting with what suits you, you already have a taste of the fun zone. In Sekiro, feeling like a god was appealing because you got destroyed by the boss many times and you finally manage to get back to it. The process of becoming a god was a slow and miserable trial and error waste of time, which is terrible for people that are busy and have no time with pointless tedious experiments. In Devil May Cry 3 and 5, the game kind of guides you properly so you can constantly feel like a god, to the point that you get used to it. Playing Sekiro with an internet guide, gave me the godlike feeling results way faster. If only the game had a proper way to teach you instead of relying to guides, i would have found it decent.

@@GangsterFrankensteinComputer like I said, I was already good at Sekiro. Just beating the bosses wasn't enough for me anymore. I wanted to dominate. I assume you've played Sekiro? Remember That 2nd Genichiro fight? Eventually you'll get good enough to respond to all his attacks and fill up his posture bar. That's great but you can also be more proactive and put the pressure on him by being braver and using different prosthetics to help close distance. He will start back-peddling and trying to put distance between himself and Sekiro. And that's just the basics. They're different ways to deal with some of his attacks, instead of just deflecting The end result won't change but the pace and feel of the fight will be different. And that's something that's only possible once you start experimenting a bit I've seen people do crazy stuff with prosthetics.

This addresses 2 things, the charity goal(s) and the Ultrakill joke. But about everything else I've noticed post-Eternal is still present. There's issues beyond these things that haven't been addressed and something tells me they haven't exactly been noticed, which is disappointing. The Elden Ring stream had other problems not addressed here. I didn't even notice people were pulling that PS5 point at all, I was more flabbergasted with other parts of the stream. The Ultrakill "joke" was based upon, well, trolling or pissing people off and it got that reaction. It doesn't matter how extreme things sounded if they sounded believable enough after the complete insanity people have come to expect from a lot of KZbin channels that are 100% genuine and being made fun of, I don't see why they'd get it with this one and truthfully I didn't either, it just seemed like a bad video. It's just a lot of small things that come together to form divisive takes and reviews on games, of which very little is clear-cut, sometimes contradicted and easy to misunderstand at least. A ton of KZbinrs are creating reviews and rants on video games every day that include personal opinions and hot takes, yet you don't see them get that response. No one likes drama alright, so I hope all this dies down soon even though I'm probably peacing out altogether slowly from this here KZbin space. I'm not really picking a side since this happened thanks to a lot of sloppyness from both sides. Everyone brought this upon themselves, one way or the other.

I have to say I still heavily disagree with you on elden ring. Sure, you don't have to like this high/dark fantasy setting and all that, that's fine. but I have seen some of your stream. "I'm only one percent into the game, yeah. and that's been three hours" Not sure if this is the exact quote, but you had such a heavy bias with the game, you didn't do shit. you basically stood in place and did nothing. and then complained about being stuck for 3 hours in the same area. you didn't explore any of the dungeons, did any of the little side quest that are in the first area. you basically sat there... and did nothing... You didn't try to engage with the combat system or made very little effort to do so, you called the world bland and boring and that it looks like other fantasy games. Point to any fantasy game with the same art style as elden ring. There is pretty much none. See, most people's problem with your elden ring stream was how incredibly disengaged you were. you complain that the game is not interesting, while you basically just sit in a spot and do nothing. For someone who basically learned and tested out every mechanic in doom eternal, you were extremely stubborn to learn anything elden ring had to offer. edit: I respect a lot of your opinions on a lot of different games, often I actually agree with many criticism you had on games I personally loved and enjoyed, because I could see the flaw in those games. but you simply not engaging at all with the game, then having the audacity to call it boring. to call it bland and what not.. it sounds extremely snobby to me. My only advice would have been to refund ER and give the guy his money back and never promised that in the first place. but you did it play it and you should have actually tried to play it, fuck, you could have asked one of your viewers to play in co-op with you. helping you guide through the game or something.

Couldn't care less about Elden Ring stream. But you still miss the point in ULTRAKILL. 1. New player experience point is so bad it actually hurts. New players are told to use other weapons, because EVERY TIME you get a new weapon you are placed in a situation you can use it to see the positives for yourself, which encourages you to use it. After getting the shotgun you need to use alt-fire to progress, realizing it makes a big boom, and then bunch of husks rush you so you can mow them down. After getting the nailgun, Malicious Face spawns, and you can see how fast it goes down if you throw a mag into it. Railgun literally forces you into a corridor where you cannot miss, and the Style meter goes straight into S. You don't need obnoxious tool tip that tells you "HERE IS A WEAK POINT. USE THIS WEAPON TO EXPLOIT IT" to learn a weapon is good. 2. Yes, prelude is kinda easy. It's almost like it is the start of the game. This is like being mad that in OG Doom E1M1 is kinda easy, but by the time you get to E2 things start to actually become challenging. It's called 'difficulty progression'. 3. I swear, you simply cannot ignore style meter this much. Because that's the thing telling you 'bruh you are doing something wrong' when you just run away pistol spam. Be it either not using other weapons that might be better than pistol for the situation, or getting hit too often. It serves the purpose of measuring if you are doing alright, and hard damage reduction only serves as a positive feedback loop. 4. Your jokes weren't funny. That's why they were taken badly. People like Yahtzee can get away with viciously mocking the game they review even if they like it - because his stuff is actually funny. 5. Nobody said you think ULTRAKILL is a bad game. People did say you want it to be something it isn't. Seriously, ULTRAKILL is more like Devil May Cry than other shooters. Trying to make it more like other shooters by adding ammo would fuck with that, just like adding ammo to Ebony&Ivory in DMC3 would. Tl;dr Hakita is right when he says he is glad other people don't design his game, because it would suck.

"In general though, I prefer the higher commitment combat of DMC and Ninja Gaiden over the Platinum formula that’s low commitment and very freeflowing." I Just copy pasted what he Said. So in the end act 1 its only that way because the game is not complete and not because of "style meter is the incentive". Hakita seens like a smart Guy and he knows that style meter its not everything. Oh and he completes with. "I personally have more fun when I’m picking individual moves for each moment where I have to weigh their risk and reward compared to the dial-a-combo system Platinum games usually go for, where you can cancel any attack into a dodge at almost any time. At least for myself, I’ve noticed that kind of combat makes me think less about what attacks I’m doing and when I’m doing them." So yeah. By the way i only commented this because It was bugging me. This whole situation and comments about the game philosophy. Now we should wait and see what this IA update Will do for act 1.

I think the confusion between the ps5 donations and charity is because, well, in the video there is no context; we only get the charity mentioned, and the one place where you can donate being the PS5. Still think that you should simply have offered to play something else. Because while you didnt call it a "bad game" you sure went to great lengh to shit on basically every part of it. Same for ultrakill. And sure the first wasnt your thing, and ultra was more a joke even if it didnt come out as one... and thats the thing. The vast majority of people's first experience of your videos was doom eternal with all the advanced techniques videos, where you could say you had a place of authority... the same place of authority you seem to take on the joke video considering the tone. people are just used to more serious, valuable info instead of you going for games where you refuse to engage with any interesting game mechanic (elden ring), be it out of boredom and irritability or not, or not being serious about what you say, like ultrakill. And to be fair, while I can get the elden ring one, I'm still on the fence for ultrakill as to if you just werent clear it was a joke video indeed or if you claim its one now that you received such horrid PR for it for crapping on the very same things you would have praised if it was doom eternal (leaning more towards the latter... and before you ask, no i'm not an ultrakill fan, havent played it because I dont think it will be my style of game but can still recognize its merits from the videos of it i saw), because this combined with elden ring feels like you can just go to hate on a game before you even tried it.

I think the point about the first levels of Ultrakill being too easy could be correct. But it seems that everyone moves on from the piercer. Maybe its because v2 forced them to but I believe curiosity will get a player to switch weapons eventually. The game could probably be a little more thorough in introducing the player to weapon synergies. But in general I don't think it is wise for a game to force a player to act a certain way instead of just giving them the opportunity to act a certain way. Ultrakill has a really low skill floor which seems odd in contrast to its insanely high (and still expanding) skill ceiling. But this also appeals to the most amount of people so the wide skill range is definitely a good thing. I think adding one or two challenges that influence the player to use the coin gun or shotguns in the early levels probably wouldn't affect the game negatively. Those who already switch weapons would do so naturally, and the players who didn't before hand would discover the weapon variety and interaction before v2 brutalizes them. To summarize, I don't think any changes are necessary, but smoothing the skill requirement jump between the first levels and v2 could help some players get settled in with the pace of the game.

When someone critiques a game, we expect some measure of objectivity. While it is said that "fun is subjective" if that is true then how do you have good or bad games? How could you even design, or critique a game at all? No, a game's "fun" is objective in a very major way, and given Ultrakill's general popularity I would say that it is objectively fun in some measurable way, but Mayo's review presented that his own subjective mindset was a flaw of the game's design, and that's what ticked people off, his review was wrong in a very objective way, and no amount of "it's just my opinion" after the fact changes that. Under the Mayo deserves to be called out for that.

When I first started ultrakill once i got the shotgun and did projectile boost I did not use anything else for the most part since it did a lot of damage and covered a huge area, now that I know how to actually play I play using many of the weapons. I agree ultrakill's act 1 does not convey how usefull the weapons are only when I saw youtube clips I understood how much I was missing out on. but then again I doubt there is an actual good way to do that cause there is so many mechanics that just making act 1 more difficult to incentivize that kind off play might just make the game to hard to get into rather make people play with style. I think it would be better if they use the cybergrind for first time players after the slide sequence in the first level plop first time players in the cybergrind and show 1 good use case for each weapon, this could also be used to add in more lore and then the first level continues and also a skip door than can be unlocked using explosions.

Unrelated to OP, but that is ironically why I stopped watching Dunkey. Past a certain point his humor was just being used as a cushion for whatever take he was giving. The "Oh it's just a joke" defense. Like Dunkey will joke 80% of the video then dedicate 20% of it to a very obvious and blatant opinion he has, calling someone or something "retarded" or levying an actual attempt at criticism, and then going right back to the humor. Which would be alright... IF his criticisms were well constructed, which they aren't most of the time. So he's got a consistently unvaluable opinion and likes to be hyperbolic while he's belting it out. I swear, he gives legitimately good advise for HOW to be a KZbin reviewer but is dogshit at following that advice himself.

Your main problem when criticising Act I of ultrakill is that you assume all new players are like you. When I started out, I died quite a number of times in prelude and layer 1, especially getting my ass kicked by Cerberus (0-5), and I assume that at least some players who were once new to the game had a similar experience. This repeated cycle of death, especially V-2 which you praise for being quite difficult without engaging with the games mechanics, caused me to try and play the game differently. The first level which I had to research how to beat was V2, and it was then when I understood the huge depth behind Ultrakill tech, and once I used it, I felt the game get so much better, get so much more fun, and I wanted to search through it more. The entire point of playing a game like Ultrakill is to have fun, so when new players recognise a more fun, more fluid, more cool -looking way to play the game, they will naturally want to explore more, and keep the fun in the game, rather than go back to playing lamely using only one weapon variant and its alt fire. Whilst I agree that challenge really helps new players engage in the mechanics of a game, since you continue to die without doing so, it's not the only thing that does. The style meter may encourage some new players to try and look cool and get to new style levels, the end ranking may encourage some other new players to get better ranks and thus learn some game mechanics, the sandbox may encourage other new players to try out different weapons, different tech, and practice against enemies for cybergrind or for chargebacking or to defeat that one level they can't. Challenge is not necessary for a new player to engage in a game's mechanics, and if you think that, then ultrakill is not the game for you. Because the objective way to play ultrakill is your subjective, favourite way to play it. If someone actually likes doing a mayo % run, they can do it, but the game strongly shows the player of new possibilities and options which they can use, learn, practice. The challenge in ultrakill comes from the P ranks, the challenges, getting to a high wave in cybergrind, etc. And even then some new players would have the introduction to the game quite hard when first starting out, then develop their skills. Just because ultrakill is too easy for you doesn't mean it is too easy for other players. So, Mayo, play ultrakill like it's ultrakill, not like it's not ultrakill.

That's literally dark side Phil type of shit. Now, its ok not to like those type of games. I had a convo very recently with a good friend where he said he played and finished the first dark souls game and decided it wasn't for him but still respects the series for what it is and what it brings to the table. Second of all, the "charity" thing. Now, if the guy that I watched purposely editted that part out, then shame on him. But, it only showed the tips goal going for the ps5, trying to say it was for "charity". That and you were purposely raising the tips goal when it was getting close so you don't have to put more time into Elden ring. And the thing that got alot of ppl (me included) was you say YOURSELF, that you like being taken out of your comfort zone and try different things in a challenging game. LITERALLY Elden ring does that, but you sat there bitching and shitting your pants on how it doesn't challenge you or it doesn't make you wanna do different things (ie exploring, trying different weapons and set ups) Now, you didn't have to play Elden ring, cause like you said you don't like those type of games, but YOU chose to. The "fans" excuse or even the "charity" excuse is complete bullshit cause he could've easily said no and refunded the game back to the fan or why with the so called charity donations, he was also trying to squeeze more donations for a ps5? Yes, I do know it was for GoWR but having the both of them there is in kinda bad taste. If he just had the donations for charity there then yea, he's in the right (mostly) but he also had a donations goal for the ps5 as well. You don't have to do everything for the fans, you CAN do a good portion for them but not all of it. As someone who has stumbled upon this rabbit hole of a mess randomly while trying to find Ultrakill tech I have to say that there is some truth in both the words of people criticising and you adressing this stuff. Concerning Ultrakill I really dont agree with the point you are trying to make about leaning into one tool since challenge runs using only 1 particular tool out of many has been there since the dawn of time and thats basically what you were doing to yourself until V2 fight, just challenging yourself even though the style meter clearly hinted that maybe you should use other stuff. The thing about Act 2 changes are honestly a bit too general to credit it solely to your critisism, things like "fix X weapon/tool" are thrown around all the time for all the games and when things eventually do get patched you dont see those people proclaming about "Look developers listened to ME! MY INPUT SPECIFICALLY. NONE OTHER" which is what its kinda sounded like in your Act 2 review. Yes it does concern health which was an example you mentioned but again I feel like that is too general to give credit for the specific change of damage cap on hp going up faster depeding on style. I get that those are your opinions and I respect that but you are also somewhat wrong in those on level of facts. Obvious example here being the "Why are developers giving me this hard boss (V2) when I could have gotten through entierty of previous levels with just a pistol. Thats kinda unfair" ( a bit of pharaphrasing here I know, but Im honestly too lazy to type your input word for word). Repeating the point of many others: V2 CAN be beaten with just pistol as a challenge and again the game did give you hints on that maybe you should try to use other weapons/tech. Genuienly glad that you liked Act 2 more tho. Lastly about the whole Elden Ring: I do think you gotta take the L here chief. Firstly if you know that it is going to be a miserable experience and you dont even enjoy the game then maybe just dont play it? I get that it for "entertainment" but its usually done by people that at least enjoy the game to some extent and even though that yes you do employ the "I critique things I love harshly" that approach just doesnt really work here since you dont relate/enjoy the genre or the setting since those types of approaches again stem from love for the game. Not to mention being drunk.......on a charity stream......aaaaaaaaaand choosing to have a separate donation goal for your PS5. Yes a lot of people bullshitted about this for clout. Yes that was unfair to you. However that being said, Im sorry but what in the actual fuck were you thinking? Im not a streamer but it sounds to me like being drunk on stream while playing a game you dont like in addition to it being a CHARITY stream does not sound like a good idea. Like at all. And especially having a secondary goal on stream for your own personal gain? Again, not super well versed in those things, but usually when I do tune in for various charity streams the vast majority of people dont really have a secondary donation goals. They make charity the absolute forefront. So that entire set up just sounds like it was bound to fail and it did. So concerning that its kinda your own fault. Apologies for errors, English is not my first language.

$250 to play Elden Ring for charity, then $180 from tips for a Ps5 for personal use during the stream. Maybe it's just me, but that's just as much of poor taste as anything made up about the scenario. Using the charity funded stream to generate revenue for yourself just is like scumbag stuff.

I honestly think that ultrakill itself should instead hint on how to have fun rather than punish the player for it, from what i see, ultrakill is a game that rewards you for having fun rather than punish you for not playing it in a way deemed creative like doom eternal, I understand you opinion on using just the piercer in the entirety of act 1, and i kind of think that the game should hint more and more towards using other guns unlocked to incorporate into the games mechanic instead on just relying on the pistol itself, if doom eternal asks you to eat that apple like a donkey instead of a human, and punishes you for it, ultrakill is like asking you to eat like a donkey and have fun, but ultrakill should suggest that you should eat the apple like a donkey to maybe have fun, sure it might take away some of the discovery factor, but i think its needed, it is in my opinion tho.

@@milk55655 250 dollars was raised for the charity donation, which ran through the summer. That money was donated in full. After that goal was met, I started a fundraiser towards a PS5 for the god of war review. When time came for the elden ring stream to happen, I took the then running PS5 fundraiser and modified it to allow people to extend my play time during the elden ring string. Those donations had nothing to do with the charity goal which had already been accomplished a month before. So no, the donations made towards getting a ps5 did not go to charity. The response to these videos has been some of the most nonsensical shit I've ever seen. People calling you the "Worst reviewer on KZbin" because you didn't shill for Overkill and had some gripes which, yes, some of which harkened back to ways you thought it could improve if it took some notes from Doom. While I do agree you maybe bring Doom Eternal up a little too often, I mean, it's fucking Doom Eternal. It's a good game with a great mechanical structure that knows how to encourage the player in the direction it wants them to play. It is the top of its class when it comes to shooters, if you're going to take notes from any shooter it's probably going to be Doom Eternal, let's be real. But no, people gotta act like you're overly pessimistic even though you're extremely mild mannered in basically all your reviews. They gotta act like you're going too far criticizing the Overkill community when they responded to your initial review like a mob of angry hornets and started entire speedrun categories to make fun of you, categories which even Reddit and their home websites started banning because of the vitriol. And c'mon, can we stop acting like Elden Ring was a perfect 10/10. The honeymoon phase is over, it's just another Souls game and there has been no shortage of FromSoft circle jerking these past 10 years. It's become friggin' insufferable and Mayo was a LOT more gracious than I would have been. In my opinion, your channel just grew large enough to punch into a new depth and you had a lot of newer people see your channel and MAKE ASSUMPTIONS about your character, because people love to hate on shit. Hell, I may have entered the channel from your Marauder video, but I STAYED because of your God of War and Resident Evil content. No one talks about how on-the-money you were about both RE3 and GOW 2018 shifted away from what made the original games great into modern game design pretention; becoming undeniably watered down. Nah, you didn't like Overkill so now we all gotta piss ourselves in rage, right? Christ, kill me. My feed has been nothing but videos from young, knee jerky fledgling KZbinrs who think the key to KZbin success is punching up and lighting fire to another KZbinr. I've seen these scenario countless times and MOST of the time it's just petty, hasty responses that never age well.

I'll say it now : "saying something to explain what you said in the past will not bring understanding to internet people." I don't have anything to say about the Elden Ring situation because I have no clue what it is But for the ULTRAKILL one.. You kinda tried to patch the Grand Canyon with scotch tape... I'm not exactly sure how you thought that making a review that was ironical on the internet was a good idea, of course people are going to tear your opinions apart for criticizing a game like this, its to be expected. You also really didn't make it clear in any of your review/responses until this one that it was ironical, making it look like you're actually serious about your claims on the game. I guess your reiteration is fine..? But still, your opinion is still lacking in actual good examples of how the game could be "improved"

Honestly, this video helps a lot. I certainly was one of the people who responded poorly to your previous Ultrakill videos, largely because it wasn't entirely clear that your jokes were jokes, because it felt like your opinions were being stated as facts, and because your issues felt exaggerated and self-inflicted. I am reminded of the TAG2 situation; I think sometimes you can go too hard against something that bothers you, with negative community outcomes as a result. That could be solved by going the way of Yahtzee and making it *explicitly clear* when a joke is occurring, or by doing what you did here and just *play things straight* instead, accounting for the fact that when it comes to criticism, people tend to take things personally. This style of video works much better because you contextualized your statements within a framework that properly accounts for that; and because of that it was much easier to listen to your points and even accept them as being potentially valid. Presentation is everything. Good luck and thank you for doing this.

Frankly, the fervorous response from Ultrakill fans during this whole outcry has, if anything, convinced me not to play the game. Not that it is bad, right from the beginning Mayo said it was good and I like skill based shooters. But I won't be able to play it now without the sour taste of this whole unnecessary episode of drama in my mouth. It is all too similar to the incident with Doom Eternal where people freaked out about Mick Gordon's mixes of his own songs not being on the OST so they lit fire to ID, then ID gave an official response where they were confused about why people thought there was drama and tried clarifying the situation and revealed Mick and them had already come up with a Plan B in case he couldn't get the mixes out on time (which if you were a fan of his, you know time allocation isn't a strength of his and he admits as much; he still pines about wanting to return to certain tracks on Killer Instinct and redo them) so there was no beef, but then then they turned around and roasted Mick as if he'd thrown ID under the bus for shit the COMMUNITY said. Never once did Mick stoke the flames or anything. The whole situation sprung from two innocuous personal messages he responded with to fans where he JUST said "I would have done it differently" and "I probably won't be working with ID again" (AKA "I wanna do other stuff right now"). People WANTED a villain to point at and go "Yeah, HE'S the problem" when in reality there was no villain. Well, guess what happened here. People took a bunch of shit out of context and villainized the fuck out of a dude who was never taking himself that seriously to begin with. It just so happened his jokes accurately summarized how vindictive the Overkill community was.

I definitely think that the way in which you went through the act 2 review of Ultrakill was done far better than the prior, but I think that falling into the same pitfall of intentionally goading people into negativity wasn't a great idea, especially considering how poisoned the well had become baseline after the first go at it. To that degree, I the blowback is partially your fault, but with that said the conduct of the Ultrakill fanbase (as is the case for most fanbases, unfortunately) is deserving criticism as well. A single video may be worthy of the meme speedrun category, but the lasting vitriol is significantly less justified. I think that had you gone through and replaced the same sarcasm with some of these thoughts in that video rather than placing them across just in a few loosely related spinoff videos, it would have gone over much better as a whole, though I'm sure a great many had already set their mind on you. Categorizing people based on shitty game takes is something people jump to far too easily.
