One thing I love about this is there is no right or wrong. Dream is just doing his job, spreading joy and happiness. Nightmare is sick of people choosing Dream over him, thus hurting others as he thinks that everyone hates him and wanting to give them a taste of their own medicine, feeling very sad however unable to die. However, the light cannot exist without the darkness. Classic, Fell and Blueberry just want Cross to leave them alone. (Not very accurate) Cross Sans wants his happy ending back. Cross Chara, whose actual task still lays unknown till this episode, wants a physical body and soul they can control. Ink... is a true chaotic neutral, who only needs the AUs for his feelings. The worst thing about backstabbing is that it never comes from an enemy.

Ink actually is a villain in the story. He just wants to have fun with the universes and manipulates them for 'fun'. You can see in this episode, he stopped having feelings for his motive but had to wait for his 'paint' to run out so it could stop completely. X!Chara wants to create their universe with a natural flow of time unlike their universe which was routinely overwritten time and time again, but didn't want to hurt X!Gaster. In attempting to stop the overwrites, which funny enough is like Sans trying to stop the resets. With all the "reset"-like overwrites, they soon went insane from repeating everything again and again. Even losing his brother 3 times (X!Frisk), first when overwritten by Gaster to start a genocide timeline, second when killed over and over by himself to make Frisk join them, last when Cross started to kill all of them for his doomed-from-the-start plan of his. This made a big effect on Chara's psyche, being tortured as 'experiments' by X!Gaster. Nightmare tho, he is over that choosing Dream over him stuff and is blinded with his hatred and is now no longer in control of himself. Ink is manipulating things from the background to his advantage and doesn't care about the small amount of timelines affected by Cross' rampage.

There's a secret message I don't think most people caught. Like one frame before X-Chara gets hit by US Sans' attack when attempting to stab Ink, a secret message appears with the picture of X-Gaster. The message is in wingdings, but I've translated it to "YOUR CREATIVITY IS A SHAME". That probably has something to do with the Overwrite wearing off
