They may have various reasons. Perhaps they don't realize the true danger of the tornado due to the allure of the spectacle, or they may not fully understand the tornado's potential as a life-threatening hazard. Some might feel drawn to the wild scene and want to document or experience it firsthand. However, this action is incredibly risky and not advisable.
@pellkovy275 ай бұрын
Until I started watching footage online, I knew they were dangerous and probably wouldn't just drive into one, but I also lived over 30 years not taking them seriously enough. Having seen what winds that fast actually do to things in real time, and knowing that they can even pull a shelter out of the ground, they have become my biggest phobia tied with tsunami. Reality in the face of severe weather is one of the most useful things to come from the internet. I would imagine, like has been said already, is that if you don't get an alert and don't understand the telltale signs ( like at night) it just seems like it's gusty until the next second, you're in a hellscape of darkness and 200mph winds. Really terrifying stuff, but all the same fascinating.

My daughter and I are storm chasers from Illinois. If you're close, you might be able to come with us next time. No joke. We hooked up with a Pennsylvania storm chaser a few months back whose chasing partner couldn't go that day. We didn't want him going alone...in a convertible mustang. 😮 We saw a couple of tornados throughout the day and evening. The nighttime one we captured on video between lightning flashes. We called local law enforcement to relay info of course. That same storm system produced a more powerful tornado that ended up in Ohio before the night was done. I will warn you. We didn't get home until after 4 a.m. and it was a weekday. Where are you located (state)? Do you know how to read radar? How good are you at navigating roads via maps? I only asked the last 2 questions to see where your storm chasing knowledge is at, nothing more. I've taken enough of your time. Have a great day. God Bless.

Generalizing storm chasers as "adrenaline junkies" is not a great move man... a lot of them do it to warn the public, assist the weather/news meteorologists with eyes on the ground as well as being first responders immediately after. I've done a fair amount of reading about the 1925 Tristate. That last one in Fairdale has some of the characteristics, the behavior of that one, a murky, horizontally churning "fog" to it, the way I'd imagined it to be, based upon some very good contemporaneous descriptions, and you probably couldn't tell where the roar was coming from. All of a sudden, it was right on top of you. The 1925 was extremely wide; it had to have been, and with lots of deceptive behavior that could have confused even most of today's storm hunters.
