I love your music, anyone who can not appreciate that beautiful music, is unfortunate for them. Its good to be open to difference, at least give it a chance. Then decide.

Carla Bley wrote a stunning ballad, called 'Rhymes'. It is featured on the album 'George Russell Sextet in KC' (Brunswick label).

Just heard lawns with Steve Swallow. Superb. I wonder if she could be talked into selling that fine couch?

@@underyourskins JUST SUBSCRIBED❗️ DONT KNOW YOUR CONTENT BUT WAS LISTENING TO “ PABLO HELD “podcast where he’s interviewing all the jazz greats when he’s not with his own brilliant trio. Anyway He’s talking with Mr. Scofield and Carla Bley’s name kept popping up! Never heard of her❗️ That’s embarrassing to admit especially being a self taught jazz composer; ( in his mid 60’s🫣) specializing in original ballads that hopefully open a window in the soul. I immediately found her essential’s album and first listen to “LAWNS !!! THAT PIECE IS THE ONLY REASON TO BE ALIVE ❗️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ It says everything we will ever need to say…… as efficiently as possible! Of course…… goosebumps and holding back tears…….. Soooo, I found your channel….. and …. Her interview explained WHERE this joy and pain manifest obviously from her father’s rejection of her. Being mis understood and rejected cuts permanently to the bone❗️ It will poor out of your pores regardless………… I lost my 20 year old son to a religious cult 4 years ago…..that I warned him was notorious❗️ He thought…. to follow God…. he had to distance himself from me! The last thing I will ever be is toxic- no drinking/ smoking; refuse to lie, cheat or steal…. AND … RAISED HIM TO BE TRUE TO HIMSELF! ….. yet…. Brainwashing is devastating…. It makes wrong seem right……….😢 He’s been gone 4 years now without a word….. It’s like Ms. Bley’s dilemma….. but in reverse. Best explained by Chris Stapleton’s lyric: “ the way you broke my heart; shattered like a rock through a window. “( off the song: COLD) What makes this moment as Heavenly as it is tragic….. is….. I just found this goddess of a poet an hour ago…..only to find out she’s been gone since October 2023❗️ The last time that calamity struck was the day I heard a Nirvana song only to find out Kurt Cobain had died a few hours later ❗️ I guess, that’s the paradox of beauty……. we usually DISCOVER it…….. after the fact. Thank you Mr. Swallow for loving Carla …. THE CONNECTION YOU 2 HAVE WAS OBVIOUSLY UN-PENETRABLE….. BRAVO U 2❗️ Thank you both forgiving us something nutritious and honest to live on. It’s only been an hour knowing you…….. and already I can feel me ……… HEALING 🎼RAIN AGAIN 🎼

BuckshotLaFunke1 sure is right about "Rhymes", which was also performed on another George Russell album, "So What" on Blue Note. About 55 years ago I heard Carla at a Sunday matinee at some little place in the Village. I told her how much I liked "Rhymes", and she showed me how to play it.

Interesting comment about the trombones in her childhood church. I've always appreciated how prominently the trombone is featured in her big band music.

Carla has covered quite a bit of territory. If you like fusiony music I'd recommend "Heavy Heart", one of my favorites is "Duets" another good one is "Social Studies".

I think "Dinner Music" would be a good place to start. More accessible, though not to the extent of Carla's 80's material.
