In the 18th and 19th century secret drawers were used to hide valuables and money. But what if the former owners left the treasures behind?

The mention of autograph books is interesting. In the 1800s and before, people worked very hard to produce what they deemed, very impressive signatures and penmanship. I have several of these small books handed down through my family. Like the drawers, a lost art.

Old sets of encyclopedias - nobody wants them so they usually get tossed out, but a bookseller once told me about someone who had found $800 or so between the pages of a set they had for some reason picked up somewhere. I was in this same bookseller's store when someone from out of town brought in some books to sell, all excellent condition and fairly new. The bookseller said this guy would come from time to time to sell books, and he didn't know where he was getting them from (he didn't want much for them either). So this particular time while I was there the bookseller started flipping through the books (after the guy had left) and started pulling out $20 bills from between the pages of some of them. $260 in total. It just goes to show that you never know where you'll find something.

Hallo Hans.

😎 I thought you were going to take out your metal detector and scan his furniture for hidden bags of gold. There may still be undiscovered hidden compartments! Perhaps Hans you could do a video where you go to a large antique market and scan the furniture. It's likely very little furniture has ever been close to a coil and it might surprise you and the dealer with what is discovered! You might get some hits from iron nails or brass screws but if there's gold or silver tones you'll know you may have found something really exciting.

GOOGLE TRANSLATE (for fun): The furniture presented here is a desk clerk or a writing desk. It was made in the late 18th century in Berlin by a well-known Berlin carpenter Ebenisten by the name of Hamann. It is often recognized by Mr. Hamann that he is very beautiful gilded in the Queen Louise all on pillars dandies and has attached the furniture is in mahogany veneer oak and spruce a particularly nice example of the German classic this writing furniture liter writing cabinets or secretaries were particularly popular here in Germany but also in the Eastern European countries also in Austria that are just with a flap that you could put down while in France sea with the flat desks fashion were the so-called office class this furniture is an interesting example of numerous secret compartments a fan were at 18 and still in 19 loves because not everyone had a safe so could to give valuables such as jewelry but also some money or other things I mean the thieves, of course, always have a good eye and have probably often seen where these cavities in the furniture and so you can often find with very brutal broken Japan you can see but I have have in the course of time have had several varieties especially just writes furniture lined we had and the long time were not open, unfortunately, the big pot of gold in leather bags, I never found but found a lot for example very beautiful Bibles or hymnals in leather bound with silver close who cost much because of previous owners delivery and also write utensils unfortunately I never found anything really valuable but it was still the hunting were very interesting because you could read about the history and something and could move back a few hundred years ago.
