In 2019, a devastating earthquake hit Albania, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Homes, businesses, and schools were all affected, leaving the community in dire need of assistance.
But with funding from the European Union and support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) a new project was launched: EU4Schools.
The goal was simple: to rebuild +60 education facilities, but with a twist. These new schools would not just be rebuilt, but built back better, with stronger structures that could withstand future earthquakes. And, just as importantly, the community would be engaged every step of the way, ensuring that the new schools truly belonged to the people.
38 education facilities have been completed so far, and the results speak for themselves. These new schools are not just stronger, but also have modern amenities like laboratories, libraries, sports courts, and gyms. And, they are fully accessible for people with disabilities. The children are thrilled with their new schools and the community is grateful for the support.
The EU4Schools project is more than just rebuilding schools, it's about rebuilding communities. The European Union and UNDP are helping build a better future for Albania’s young generation.
