Asperatus clouds are so rare they managed to escape classification until 2009. Ominous and stormy as they appear, these clouds often break up rather quickly, without producing a storm. As with most other undulating cloud types, these clouds are formed when turbulent winds or colliding air masses whip up the bottoms of the cloud layer into fancy shapes and formations. More common in the plains of the United States (try Iowa), asperatus clouds are at their weird and swirly best during the morning or midday hours after a thunderstorm.

It actually isn't that rare. It's weird to me that it wasn't officially classified before.

This isn't so much a "cloud" phenomenon as it is purely atmospheric. As any aircraft pilot can attest, these waves are moving through the atmosphere continually, even in clear air. They are often created by air moving over mountain ranges. We can't see these waves without the presence of clouds, but the clouds are not actually part of the phenomenon. Looks really cool in time lapse in any case.

Noted wind line and trash returns inside the 50 mile NexRad, Dodge City, Ks.prior to arrival of the cloud mass here. Believe that ours here, was caused by low pressure behind locale huge windfarms

First, it looks like this is a speed advanced film shown. These clouds will move quite slowly. When I've seen these they've always had Thunderheads (Cumulonimbus) above and slightly behind them. It seems to me that a lower shelf of Nimbostratus slid under the upper clouds, and then were caught in the path of rising warm air.

I was on University of Nebraska, Lincoln, East Campus on July 7th, 2014, the evening this occurred. I know the date because I was so excited I went home and journaled it. I was walking my dach-sons (dachshunds). Classes were out for the summer so there were no students or staff anywhere to be seen. I was all alone 'cept for my dogs and, and at first was very frightened. Then I thought Jesus was coming...seriously. Then I realized I was watching probably one of the rarest meteorological events to occur and likely most awesome experience in my life. It looked like a powerful storm tossing giant waves and creating occasional whirlpools in the ocean. Like a painting come to life in the sky. I was in the right spot at the right time for once. I'm certain my mouth was agape the entire time. My only regret? There was no one there to share it with. I had studied meteorology in college and knew these clouds were un. like any I had learned of. I came home and started researching. I Undulatus asperatus (or alternately, asperatus. A rare, newly recognized cloud formation, that was proposed in 2009 as the first cloud formation added since cirrus intortus in 1951 to the International Cloud Atlas of the World Meteorological Organization. The name translates approximately as roughened or agitated waves. Nonetheless, this rarity was a sight to behold. I can only hope to witness another. www.weather.gov/sgf/events_2010jun7

If you think about it, it is actually very true. We live in a gas like substance the same way that fish live in the ocean it is just a denser heavier material. So if you put it that way when you jump into the ocean you just go from a pool of gas to a pool of water. The timelapse is amazing great job.

The earths atmosphere behaves like a fluid. I'm not exactly sure what the process is to get the clouds to form waves like that. All I know is that a major contributing factor is fluid dynamics. What your seeing in this video are literally waves in the atmosphere. Did that help you out?
@Muhafaka
@Muhafaka 6 жыл бұрын
Planets behave like magnets and those that are from the same Solar System even if they are different Solar Systems from the same Binary System... when they get close to each other even from very far away, the magnetic fields push each other's atmosphere! Basically if you look closely try to imagine the air as liquid and you will see waves like you would be under water. So basically is just one of the planets from the other binary system passing by, since it has entered or closed from behind our system trailing our Sun and basically its from the inner side of the trail of the Sun. Basically if the equator is facing the Sun, then the North Pole is facing outwards the System and the South Pole inwards, and this explains why NZ in southern hemisphere. You are welcomed! Don't worry, earthquakes and mad volcanoes won't happen until the other binary system slingshots our Sun (the bigger Sun).

@fivguuv166

Beth Zumwalt it was a rhetorical question, but don't bother with me on the "chemtrail is a conspiracy" disinformation. I wont reply back after this but there is a number of videos which show planes turning on and off their trails, aswell as planes making u turns to spray in grid patterns. Also there are videos of tanks loaded with chemicals on a plane and videos of plane pilots verifying they are spraying some sort of substance. I would add links but I've wasted enough time already to reply to someone bent on denial, or just out to disinform people. Just know the truth is obvious for anyone with eyes, and many have come to see whats going on, you aren't fooling anyone if that's what your trying to do.

When I was little, I always thought that to some being out there, our air would have the same feel as water (maybe to aliens with a different level of density? idk it was a theory that I had when I was like 8 it made sense at the time) Now we're getting clouds that look like waves ooooo.

I have just recently read these types of clouds are rare, come to Michigan because they happen not often but often enough that calling them rare is not accurate where I live in Southwest Michigan. I usually take photos of them for their beauty
