It's good that there a lot of genres, gives us a lot of different choices. Genres of music are just like genres of books: when you walk into the library for a book, you know what to look for. Walk up to the librarian and ask her for a "mystery." She then tells you where the mystery section is. If there was no way to classify them, she would have to respond "I'm sorry, all we have are books." Labeling different genres makes it easier for people to find similar bands to bands that they like. See?
