Unearthing a 100+ Year Old Manure Spreader

This week we're dividing up into two parts. Next Saturday will be "part 2". For this weeks' segment, were doing a little bit of final clean up at the barn site, as well as seeing if there's any life left in a century old manure spreader. I believe this is either a John Deere Model B or C.

Great job, I just pull ours out, fortunately no trees in the middle, just brush. Although our frame is a different design, it is an all steel machine with a 2 chain bed drive and narrow front wheels. We are currently trying to figure out what brand it is and maybe a year of manufacture. Our will be turned into yard art with some flowers. Thanks for the great vid!

It's "mud season" up here in NY too, however our mud is from melting snow and thawing ground not rain. BTW, you may want to stock up on blades for your mill...sawmills are getting tough to come by...a certain orange brand that I have is giving out estimates for new mills as far out as Jan 2022.

woah..... I was on the woodland website the other day, and they're a few months out, and I thought that was bad..... Just checked jerry's resharp (where I got my last blades from) and they're sold out! I wonder if there will be a flood of lightly used mills for sale in another couple years......

Ha, Josh, I'm your first one on this... more to come Okay thats good for me as you are one I do follow closely. What were you thinking climbing up and topping a tree/lol. Yes you did it right and no problems as I see this is not the first rodeo for you topping a tree. Your sense of balance can only be replicated by a cat. I do believe that your just the guy to get a "poop slinger" back in shape to build soil again. I have a old sickle cutter that hung to the ground and trees and its stretching those old bolts hard.... so until next week when we see some more acrobatics .... so not long till a wooden sign that says Josh Jr. Farming and milling... nice ring to it hu/LOL

Yeah, topping was the best option. Didn't want any big chunks landing on the spreader, and didn't want to take a chance of anything hitting the electric lines either......

You should of cut that cherry wood up into cupboard size pieces on your mill and made cupboards for your loft! What do you do for a day job Josh?

I thought about it, but there's LOTS of cherry on the farm, and this one was a bit smaller than I wanted to mess with milling. Actually, the day job is farming..... it's all at a different location, but eventually it'll get moved here.
