I love this. I love Penn and Teller when they show things like cup and balls with clear cups. Haven't seen ropes. I thought there might have been magnets. I'd love to see it with 3 colors or maybe more ropes.

Bien fait. Well done. I am playing with my ropes, have 6 or 7 versions, black, white, red, tipped, thin, thick, finding what feels best in the hand. Loved some of your advanced techniques especially the loops to even size ( great foreshadowing) and seeing others versions, we all learn and build on the backs of giants like you. Thanks for joining the giants. For others looking for ideas, my favorite so far is 3/8” yacht rope from home store, silky feel, relatively inexpensive, after cutting I fire seal the ends and then dip in a rubberized “Flex Seal” pint. Makes black look like a magic wand, white blends away, and red a play between the two. Appreciate your ideas.

Fantastic work brother! I'll be recommending this as a beginner's course to inquisitive young magicians who like my rope routine for years to come... I'd also add the fiber optics dvd by Richard sanders... its got some good visual teaching... and alot of good sequences are included. Used in conjunction with the fantastic routines you suggested of course. Once again LOVED watching this video!

Holy crap, I just amazed myself for all the wrong reasons. I never realized this before, Doug, but I think I'd seen your work before KZbin. I don't remember if it was a DVD or VHS or what, but I remember watching something my dad got me from the library when I was in my teenage years. I never connected you with that memory until I just saw that picture of you from 1997. I didn't recognize this Doug that I know today as that Doug that I had seen before. 🤦♂️ ... unless I'm just hallucinating.

Harry Houdini had this trick in his small pocket note pad. He was always on the move. So he carried a small pad to write down idea's. This was one the he had drawn out in detail. Since he had whats call now ADHD. Most all of his magic was just mussel memory. But it may seem that this one was a difficult one to remember. As it was very detailed. This pad was sold at action many years ago. To an unknown party. My guess, sold to Neal Patrick Harris. You can Google this. And put the peaces together.

After doing the "stretching" move and making the ropes seemingly all the same length, I tie them into 3 rings. The patter is "Have you ever seen the magic of the Chinese Linking Rings? I love that illusion, but I can't afford the magic rings. Think about it. 10 rings that have the magical property of melting into one another. Those are rare and expensive rings. So instead, I learned to do it with rope. And let me tell you, it takes a real idiot to try to do that effect with rope. But I found a way to make it work." I tie the ends to form 3 equal-sized rings. And I keep the rings together, and they appear to all be the same size as I pull them through my hands. And then I simply untie the rings, revealing a short, a medium, and a long rope. It's harder to describe than it is to perform. And I have been doing it that way since 1976.
