Seriously this part of the COP drives me nuts. Some of these are totally underrated.

The unknown gymnast at 3:23 performing the toe-on Marinich is Allison Buckley. That was a state meet at my high school back in... 2006? Something like that.
@1bravenewworld12 жыл бұрын
Yes. I somehow misread it and didn't really think about it... ;-) It's still a crazy skill, sometimes you forget how hard it actually is when you just watch it, but when you read the describtion, it sounds so hard... So kudos to Elisabeth Seitz and all the others doing it!

@crazynightsinparis Imogen's is piked while Nastia's is layout. They do look the same when you first see them but if you watch carefully you'll see that Nastia keeps a straight body while she's on the air and pikes before she catches the bar while Imogen has a pike position during the whole move

I actually prefer the B/C skills at the beginning to a lot of the common release moves.

I wish people woulkd do more of these insted of just jaegers, geingers, and tkaltkevs. :((((
@neos.herakles15 жыл бұрын
Well Elena Shushunova did a a full twisting Tkachev facing away from the low bar. Back in the 1980's, it was common to do the Tkachev facing away from the low bar. But nowadays gymnasts face the low bar when performing those moves a lot of times to connect with a transition for bonus points.
@woofiegrrl16 жыл бұрын
Absolutely beautiful, definitely the best "named moves" montage out there. THANK YOU!!
@MostepanovaFan16 жыл бұрын
They are in the Code of Points (rated D) but I'm not sure if they count as release moves or not :)
@lepetitpoulet15 жыл бұрын
it's simple: transition moves were considered release moves in that code, now it's only when you catch on the same bar.they fulfill different group requirements. read the code maybe, it's all there
@jmauriciocortes16 жыл бұрын
yes I believe it is considered a release move, it is under the 'Giant circles' portion of the COP. there is no 'release' section.

I can't believe that the liu xuan move isn't a G skill. It looks harder than a two armed gienger by far.
@bbhouk114 жыл бұрын
@ethakimm i think the Deltchev was created before the Gienger, so it had a different name
@neos.herakles14 жыл бұрын
@LMA629 Because a blind change and a Markelov by themselves aren't all too difficult, but when you try to connect the two elements it's a whole different story.
@MostepanovaFan16 жыл бұрын
A Shaposhnikova doesn't count as one, a release move is an element with flight on the same bar. Elements with flight between the bars are considered transition moves
@jmauriciocortes15 жыл бұрын
yes they are, you get bonus as two flight moves in connection for like a hop full to reverse hecht. and they are rated as a D.
@piskoun16 жыл бұрын
I was also wondering what happened to them because I don't remember seeing them in this very cool montage! ;)

2:51 to think that jiani wu's daughter is now a world champion. how time flies.
@ShawnVikaKomova201213 жыл бұрын
@garyj79 No, I know that. I just mean that is Wu's skill only able to be performed after a belly beat? They have to be able to swing hard enough for that skill if the Khorkina is possible.
@benrobinson7716 жыл бұрын
Yes, I understand that but for a while Dominique Dawes did not have a release move in 1994, how could she make event finals in 1994 worlds without a the requirement of release move? Also I thought i heard a commentators talk about the number of release moves in routines and Shaposhnikovas appeared to be included in that count. Also, i thought Shannon Miller's hop full turns were being counted as release moves as well.
@JohnPhilipSousa51912 жыл бұрын
It is crazy hard, but I wish that someone could do it without the leg separation. I suppose we'll ignore that just because it's so tough :) But I know that a number of French gymnasts have done it, so in my mind they absolutely own it!
@benrobinson7716 жыл бұрын
I cant believe they didn't use Dominique Dawes' hindorf from 1996. I believe it is by far the best one ever performed.

@gymshiv: Yes, He Kexin did a Layout Jaeger directly into a Pak at the 2008 London Olympics. @ who ever doesn't understand the difference between a Liu and a Straddled Deltchev: They both start at a swing forward, but where the Liu does a back salto 1/2 to catch the HB, the Deltchev is a front flip with 1/2 twist.
@leapjumpsoar80492 жыл бұрын
no deltchev is basically an arabian
@lepetitpoulet15 жыл бұрын
the full twisting tkatchev on HB (in a lay out position) is an F move and in MAG moves are classified between A and F so it's the most difficult value. (it's called a Liukin by the way) so yeah, i think you are wrong to discredit that move
@produnov15 жыл бұрын
This music is just wonderful. so relaxing
@neos.herakles14 жыл бұрын
@KVisMILTON For women, it would probably be the same difficulty of a G. Though doing it from a giant and then doing the twist in flight is harder. Did you see Danell Leyva's new high bar routine? He does the full twist from a giant.
@neos.herakles15 жыл бұрын
Speaking of possibilities, is it likely female gymnasts will eventually perform elements such as the Kovacs, Kolman, Cassina, etc on the uneven bars? Mo Huilan already set precedent by introducing the Gaylord I in international competition.
@ShawnVikaKomova201214 жыл бұрын
I'm kind of surprised that the Caslavska is rated so high. To me, the Shushunova looks like a half pirouette into a Khorkina. That skill performed by Wu Jiani, is it no longer used because it's hard to perform without belly-beating which is no longer allowed or is it not seen because of the low difficulty rating? I think a full-twist would look nice on that and make it a, say, E skill?
@No1ZmeskalFan15 жыл бұрын
Liu Xuan did it in 95 at Visa Challenge. Kathy J said it was given a very low value by judges and I think that was the last time she used it

The reason we don't see the complicated releases (Gaylord, Def, etc) as often is because the true source of difficulty on UB, with this CoP, is pirouettes. Why risk coming off on a release when you can do a string of Healys, Onos and Stalders, which is more valuable?
@Mud99Dog11 жыл бұрын
Wow, I didn't know Beth Tweddle had an eponymous skill! That is so cool! Didn't Nastia Liukin have a skill named after her on beam but it was removed from the Code of Points or something?

@TsubasaDreams13 жыл бұрын
@brycehelmer I don't really understand your comparison between Tweddle and Nastia. Tweddle had late pirouettes and a higher D-score than Nastia. You have to remember that the judges see it from the side so tiny leg separations that we can see in slow motion or from the front may not be seen by the judges. If you really want to compare execution, watch Mustafina or Nabieva. Helicopter legs, bent knees, horrible form in general. Mustafina has no business doing 3.5s and Amanars.

Looking trhough the CoP... Does anyone know who performed following release skill: "Swing fwd and salto bwd stretched with 1½ turn (540°) to hang on HB"? It must be HUGE and I can't think of anyone doing it, but on the other hand, why would it be in the CoP if nobody ever did it?

It's kind of happening the same with floor excercises ( in a sort of different way). Nowadays you only see jumps, hops, twists, saltos and tumbling passes and no artistic-ballet coreography at all. I know that judges are looking for difficulty in tumbling and acrobatic skills, but they don't care about this anymore and floor routines are loosing what years ago was part of its greatness !!!
