Just beautiful! But feeling a bittersweet dose of “Heimweh” seems inevitable when, like me, you were born on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Unfortunatly I had to leave my beloved Baltic Sea many many years ago but the feeling seeing this Landscape never changes. By watching your wonderful video I can literally smell the air and hear the seagulls. Thank you for touching a very special chord in my soul. Much love from the lower Rhine.

Hi Lauren. I like your videos because they are very relaxed. As a child I lived at the Baltic Sea, so this video brings back nice memories. Schönhagen is not in North Friesland, though. North Friesland is on the West Coast. The landscape there is called "Angeln". 1500 years ago, a small tribe set out to conquer islands far to the west. A strange people. They later called themselves the English, and they remained strange. 😁

The Baltic was formed by the last Ice-Age. That is only some 20000 years ago or less. That means, those sandcliffs will not last forever. When they erode forests take over because the trees can root then. That is why you find a lot of mostly beech and alder forests along the Baltic Coast of Schleswig-Holstein where the land is some 30 feet or more above sea-level and then drops down to the coastline. Sandy beaches are rare, mostly it is pebbles, more irregular ones than at the British coast and there are lots of broken flintstones among them.

Please, continue with the beautiful and enjoyable content you've been creating! A little correction: A "Hagen", as it's part of many village names such as Schönhagen, does not refer to a garden. It's actually an old (northern) German name for a clearing in the forest. So whenever you see the ending -hagen to a place's name, you know that someone took it upon himself to chop many trees to build his home and some farmland. I am usually a moment in awe, when I think about the effort people in the past had to take to fulfill their basic necessities, a house and food.

Hallo Kristina, thank you so much! This is where I got my information from: „Der Ortsname geht auf das Grundwort Hagen für Einhegung, eingehegte Rodung zurück und bedeutet etwa Zum schönen Hagen oder Garten.

In German language the word Northsea exists, Eastsea and southsea, but not Westsea, lol. Maybe we should call the balticsea offically the Bluesea. Intense blue indeed. I did not know that. Learned something new! Goose are great anmals. I will watch the docu. Have you already been in the Lüneburger Heide when the Heide blüht? The sheeps there are called Heidschnucken. What a cute name for an animal. The Amber Phosphor thing is not the only threat. Bombs, posiongas grenates and seamines from the second world war becoming an increasing threat to the Batlic sea. Thanks to global warming, it is getting warmer. Do you like exploring norse mythology? Reading about it? Like the Edda? Sadly, not much continentalgermanic mythology survied till present day, but here are some examples, like the Wild Hunt. I am sure you now the Merseburger Zaubersprüche. Most scientists are sure Wotan is the continentalgermanic name for Odin and Donar for Thor. The etymology of the words Wut and Donner are interesting, aswell the names of the weekdays. Sadly, the Edda has strong christian influcenes. So it is maybe not pure nordic as some may think it is. I am sure you enjoy reading local sagen and legenden of the places you explore. I know you did that with your living place, like the story of the white lady. Have you been thinkg of exploring celtic mythology and visit celtic relicts and celtic museums in Germany? Because celtic tribes setteld a huge area of modern Germany and go to Haithabu. I never was there, so it will be interesting to see it through your yes and take a glas of Met (Honigwein) when you are there.

Dear aka99, thank you so much for writing your interesting comment again! Heidschnucken sounds sooo cute!!! And i am indeed very interested in the Edda, and I´m preparing a programme with songs based on it and other Nordic writings, right now. I do want to look more into my celtic ancestors here in Germany, and I like your idea that I should make videos about it. I used to love Met (mead we called it) when I lived in Wales and I would always have some in the house for Christmas here in Germany. I don´t eat/drink honey or alcohol anymore, but I really enjoyed it at the time!

@@LaureninGermany which other nordic wirtings? A programme for this plattform or selfmade songs for singing in front of a live audience? I do not want to sound mad, but norse mythology is not very popular in Germany, but i would listen to a Programme about nordic songs performed by you. I suggest to start with the Heuneburg. Chr.) datiert. Träger der Latènekultur sind die seit dem 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr. in griechischen, später auch in römischen Quellen genannten Kelten. Glauberg. I do not know anything about celtic tribes who lived nearby the place your are living now, but the rhine-main-area was once a strong celtic center.

Hi Uli! Yes, yellow! I wanted to feel happy when I looked at the van, so I went with yellow, inside and out. And a bit of VW homage on the bonnet! WOMO… well, I got the TÜV and ummeldet it today, so it’s officially a WOMO and not an LKW! I must share the name, I haven’t done it yet. How are you?
