Thank you for taking the time to stop by our Hawaii/local guitar shops. I shopped at Easy Music, Dan’s Guitar and especially at Good Guys Guitar (friendly and down to earth). Each shop has their own charm and collection of great gears. Might have to check out that SG at Dan’s. 🌺🌺🌺

I was stationed at Schofield Barracks in the early 80's.My parents were kind enough to ship my Ibanez Destroyer 2 and Marshall lead 12 from Illinois to Hawaii. I remembered it cost alot back in 1983. I miss Hawaii. Cool videos for guitar nerds .

I've known Dan for a number of years now. He helped me put together and restore a '62 Fender Duosonic and got me parts for my BC Rich. It was a lot better than the crappy stuff and fake stuff from mail order. He and the rest of the guys at that shop are really cool and friendly. Thanks for putting this vid together and showcase the goods 🎸🎵 🎛in Hawaii!

I was stationed at Schofield Barracks from 4/90-2/92, and I loved going to Pearlridge Music in Aiea across the street from Pearlridge Mall, they were a big BC Rich & Charvel dealer, and Coconut Grove Music, they were a big Kramer dealer, and I forget the name of it, but there was also a Music Store inside Ala Moana Mall that was a Robin dealer!

Dans guitars is great. Island guitars used to have a nice used / vintage selection but they closed shop. Kirk Hammett has been known to rent PA equipment from Easy Music 🤙

I live here on Oahu. Great to see those stores. So many others that are killer. Like the “Music shop” in Waipahu. Always hit them up first before the big stores. You’d be amazed.

PRS guitars are really cool. Just not for me. Had one, but prefer Strats, and Teles, and LPs, and etc ;) guitars with a characteristic sound

I still gotta check Dan’s and Good Guys. We lost some good ones like Island Guitars and Hot Licks guitars. I used to jam at Hot Licks just about every weekend if I could. Really miss that place.

Weather damage is a thing in Hawaii. Oxidation from sea air kills guitars.

There are a number of custom guitar makers in Hawaii who use local woods. There’s also carbon fiber guitars made in Hawaii that withstand humidity. Carbon fiber is used in surfboards and people know how to lay it up. For a place with such a small population, Hawaii has an amazingly vibrant music community, going back more than a century. It has a unique style recognized the world over. The Drednought class of Martin guitars was developed for a Hawaiian musician. Now, do instruments get abused? Sure. But nothing is treasured more than a good family instrument that is passed down from one generation to another. People have their beater instruments that they take to the beach and their performance instruments. Play them in the evening, out of direct sunlight and when the wind dies down, and they’ll be fine. People, love their guitars. A “flaw” to you is merely its personality to them.

I noticed the address on the Easy Music building, 1314 South King Street. That is the location of the old Honolulu Civic Auditorium! A very old and historic venue for boxing, wrestling, roller derby and concerts. I saw Led Zepplin in the early 70s there! Led Zepplin III was a new album!
