OMG, I might be behind you Elaine, I work for a company that is struggling right now and if it closes the door I might have to retire early. Thanks for this episode. I know it is doable but I am still nervous.

It seems to be trending for companies to just let go of older workers. I was done similarly after 37 years of dedication to the company. I think it was due to having moved to one of the other locations, so they didn’t see me as valuable as my original location, even though during every yearly review, they always commented on how much they valued me. Thankfully, we were debt free when it all happened. Coming up on my 1 yr anniversary of retirement. Figured out that being let go was actually one of the best things. What Elaine said about don’t give so much energy on the little things at work is spot on…in the grand scheme of life, it’s not worth it.

The key is following Dave Ramsey and have no debt and no mortgage or car note. My story is identical and retired at 58. It's been the best time of my life waking up and doing what I love to do. Husband still working and covers our healthcare expenses. Life is short so LIVE!!!!

OMG. This story is shockingly similar to my own experience. This year I was forced retired by my company after 30 years. 56 years old. Did a fair job at savings but also was expecting to work at least a couple more years. Our main issue has become healthcare coverage of which I was the primary provider in that area.

Lucky she worked for a European company because most American companies would have deactivated her building access and fired her via email.

And they gave her one year notice, a financial package including pension. Wow, this is definitely not the typical involuntary “retirement.”

Best question, great job James! "With what you know now, looking back to your 55-year-old self -- how you advise her?"

More like this please…awesome video that I could connect with (or as Ari would say, it resonates with me lol). Cheers!

Sounds like she did a great job adjusting, even though it was not planned for at this point in her career. Very fortunate to have a spouse, I imagine it would be tougher had she been single.

Hi James. When building our bond ladders (war chest) of 3-5 years , should the bond ladder be built in our IRA account or in our after-tax brokerage account? Thanks for any thoughts on how to approach an answer on this…

Health care coverage?

Good question! That is one of my biggest concern because the insurance in the market is age base
