Norma here. These taste tests are so much fun to watch and you just never know who will like what. I knew for sure that Jami would like it. Bri and Lou surprised me. I thought that Lyssa would really like it and that Jake wouldn’t. Kim is too funny. She really hated it. Even Paw Paw and Gigi liked it. Ben was okay with it. It was good to see Lester and Jami actually participating. I guess you figured that LE and Megan wouldn’t want to participate. All in all including both of you, Lou, Jami, Paw Paw, Gigi, Bri and Jake really liked them. It was a success.

Great video of the fam. On a separate note, I watched Cayden helping out Pawpaw and I just have to praise you and Buddy for raising such amazing kids. I cannot say enough good things about Cayden. My grandmother used to make sweet pickled watermelon rind. She'd collect the rinds from the watermelons from our 4th of July family picnic - fruit was served rind free- and next day she was making sweet pickles/ Bread and butter pickles from the rinds 🍉 🍉 🎺. Something sweet and a taste of summer 🏖 come winter! ❄

Kim’s face!! 🤣🤣 So proud Ben actually tried the pickled watermelon rind! Good job Bennett! I think you have a winner! I really like my Granny’s pickled watermelon rind but she used a bread and butter recipe and no chili pepper flakes or peppercorns, and sliced the watermelon rind length ways like pickle spears. You did really good Stephanie! ❤️🙏

I have made watermelon pickles for years and everyone that has has them really liked them. I have made mine different than yours as after the brine was put on them they stand in the brine on the counter for several days being stirred each day. Also has cinnamon and gloves in the brine so they are a sweet pickle almost like a trea t instead of a pickle. Family would grab them out of the brine on the counters before they were ready to be put in the jars and into the waterbath.

Those looked tasty! Your taste tests are so much fun. A glimpse into another facet of 'life on the hill'. A friend made pickled cantaloupe rinds but I would be hesitant to dedicate time on that risky option. I never had spicy pickled watermelon rinds or any made with apple cider vinegar. We cut our watermelon into slices so it was perfect for sandwiches. It was great in chicken salad. (I often add sliced green grapes to chicken salad or chopped raisins so for me it seemed normal.) Maybe pickled jalapeños someday?

On my goodness never heard any one say that about watermelon pickles an have made many a pickle ! They are like a preserve an I like the ones like that are water melon persevere! Ingredients 4 pounds chopped watermelon rind 1 gallon water 1⁄2 cup salt 9 cups white sugar 8 cups water 4 teaspoons crushed cinnamon stick 4 teaspoons ground cloves 4 lemons - rinsed, sliced and seeded 1 dash red food coloring Directions Step 1 Peel off the green part of the watermelon rind, and slice into 2 inch pieces. Soak the rind in a solution of 1 gallon water and 1/2 cup salt overnight. Step 2 Remove rind from the salt water, and place in a stockpot with clean water to cover. Bring to a boil over medium- high heat, and cook for about 30 minutes, or until the rind is tender. Drain. Step 3 In a large pot, combine the sugar, 8 cups water, and sliced lemons. Tie the cinnamon and cloves into a cardamom on a double thickness of cheesecloth. Gather corners of cloth to enclose seasonings; tie securely with string. Add to stockpot. Return to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until rind is clear, 30-45 minutes. Discard spice bag. Remove from heat. Ladle hot mixture into 6 hot sterilized half-pint jars, leaving 1/4-in. headspace. Remove air bubbles and adjust headspace, if necessary, by adding hot mixture. Wipe rims. Center lids on jars; screw on bands until fingertip tight. Place jars into canner with water simmering, ensuring that they are completely covered with water. Bring to a boil; process 5 minutes. Remove jars and cool.Buddy an Steph
