Well, done I totally can relate with you about the weather. The RBC Brooklyn half was pretty hot this weekend and prior to that week I was recovering from the shingles. I'm giving myself a week of recovery.

The first run in the heat is always painful. Congratulations on the Brooklyn Half, running after the shingles must be so tough. I had shingles 11 years ago when I wasn't a runner but it took me months to go back to nornal

We have all been to the well and found nothing in it Suzie and it just takes tremendous determination to see it through. So for that well done as you must have dehydrated to have felt so unwell at the finish. Hope you give yourself time to recover. X

I am fighting a cold... I think it was brewing already on Sunday. But I was also not hydrated enough for the temperature.

Great job, Suzie. I know that you probably don't want to hear that phrase again, but given the fact that you "bonked" by mile 4, your determination and perseverance in finishing another nine miles are to be recognized! It was hot, if only relatively so, and Morristown/Harding has never been an "easy" course, whatever route has been outlined. I think that the overall hilliness and difficulty level of this race gets overlooked by way of a "convenience factor" because of the majority of its participants living in such proximity within the state and tri-state area. Anyway, it was a pleasure chatting with you yesterday, and may you be well rested for your "10 K Holiday" in Spain!

That looked like a hot, tough day. You made it! Not every race goes like we’d like it to. Kudos for sticking it out. Physically it wasn’t there but strong minded you are. You definitely won that battle! Go Suzie Go! Rest up and get hydrated… you’ll be right back out there and getting it done all over again!

I ran it too... felt the same way. The hills were painful, and when the sun came out it felt like 90 degrees even though it was only mid 70's, my first half.

It's usually the first race that's hotter and that's why we feel this way. It's still an awesome race though IMO

Ugh, Suzie! Congratulations on getting to the finish despite it all. I've died my worst deaths on spring mornings like that. We're just a month away from the longest day of the year now so the sun is blazing hot, and the ground everywhere is saturated from so much rain lately. It's a steam bath out there by mid-morning. I don't have any advice for what you could have done differently because I can't run in it either. Going slower means being out in it longer and later into the day when it's even warmer. And I don't really think it was electrolytes or hydration. It's just too sunny and humid, core temperature too high and no way to cool off. It would be a lot less of a problem if we could start a half marathon at 8:30 and be done by 9:45 like proper runners.😅But great job controlling your effort and surviving to the finish. It had to be incredibly tough.

Thanks ME. It's over now...Glad I finished I have a super cool and light camelback that I am going to take for a spin soon. I hope I don't chafe with this one like I did with the other one. It might become my best friend. Every year I deal worse with the heat. I just don't sweat like I used to

My brother lives a few miles away, I'm dying to run at least a piece of it. Id already made a route though the parks last year but the opportunity hasn't surfaced. Next year his 3 kids will all be away at college maybe I'll have to visit to cheer he & Kristen up. Hit the route.

Sounds like it was warm - bonks come early in heat. Headache too, do think you had some heat exhaustion? Sort of sounds like it. It's early in the season, not many are acclimated to running in higher than 60F for a race as long and as fast as a half.

i am a little concerned, expecting the weather in Madrid being pretty sunny and warm. If i remember correctly you struggled in some training runs, when it got warm..........as far as i could see, your blue t-shirt was almost dry the whole time, so you did not sweat much. For me, this looks a sign of under hydration.....for me as a rule of thumb 2 sips of water every 15 minutes during warm weather runs over 60 minutes in duration. I either carry a bottle in my hands or 2 small bottles in a running belt. No comment about gels, never had one. Half a banana every 30 minutes for all hard runs over 2 hours.....headache and dizziness are also signs of underhydration....as the body needs time to digest the water, on warm days you pretty much start drinking water one hour before the races starts
@IRunThings5 ай бұрын
I knew you were going to say all this. 😄 I think I am on a state of constant dehydration. The good thing about Madrid is humidity is going to be 10% not 80%. But yes, I understand the comment

@@IRunThings I thought, even if you know what was going on, it might be a helpful thing to hear it from somebody else.....specially after i read all those upbeat and positive vibes producing comments by everybody else....somebody needs to be concerned, when things don`t go well.....just trying to support ......elektrolytes are not the problem, without heavy sweating you don`t use/lose enough to need to fill them up during the run, specially as they also take away water from wherever they find it.....and you already experienced yourself the terrible effect that can have
